I have not been able to get my data collectors to connect to a new laptop w/Windows 10 on it through a USB connector. Googled the issue and found others are experiencing the same issue.

I greatly object to Microsoft's terms and conditions for using win10.

I value my privacy and I don't want my operating systems snooping and reporting.

I see no advantage to the new features offered in win10.

I will not be upgrading.

I just purchased a refurbished laptop on eBay for a whopping $325. It came with 8 GB Ram and Windows Home 32-bit (only 3.2 or 3.28 GB used). I upgraded to 10 without too much issue with the frustrating exception that they still have a 32-but version of 10. Why? Why did they sell the system and why did Windows keep 32-bit?

I have an old laptop that broke. It has 7-pro-64, so I will try popping that drive in and see if I can get it to work in the new machine. Then I will take that old and dirty copy of 7 that was used for 5+ years and make the upgrade to see if it works. This old laptop was the system I purchased before I upgraded the office to 7 from XP. I was able to sort out so many bugs of conversion and I knew to wait for the HP 1050 drivers to be released.

I am not sure if I will upgrade the whole office or not. I will see after I demo this machine. As I am the first stop with tech questions and as I am a grumpy person who does not want to be bothered with tech questions, I may stick with 7 for as long as possible.

The only way I will make that jump would be that it be forced upon me.

Even if that were to happen, I would probably stop using a computer for anything new or online and simply use my phone.

I updated my Windows 7 a week or so ago... it was taking forever, literally hours. It turns out that the Ready for Windows 10 was being automatically downloaded (it was at 3GB and growing). I shut off the machine. I then deleted both of the Windows partitions, and the other NTFS formated partitions just for good measure. (windows can access them, but not the ext3 and ext4 formatted partitions that I use for Linux) (every bit of Data was already backedup, and archived too). the end of that era for me.
This morning I re-taught myself how to run Virtual Box. I then installed Windows 7 in a box, then I installed LDD 2004. I still had the original CDs and codes, no big deal. Both installed Much quicker in the virtual drive than on a conventional hard drive. I did not connect to the internet and update anything or install any virus software or firewalls, it is not needed. None of those "updates" did anything for me, they were just to protect me from the vulnerable MS code. Everything works fine, no issues. (It can Not connect to the internet unless I specifically permit it, and I will not.) It runs a tiny bit slower, but BFD.
I have not used windows for any internet dependent things for several years, it is just too damn slow... especially with they many layers of virus protection and firewalls. This made for a long day but the effort is worth it.
Windows 10? maybe, just to play. But only in a Cage, where it belongs.

yes, I am biased

Wendell: I will not be checking any of the boxes on your poll, they don't apply, thanks.

Most of my machines are running Win7 Pro and I did update to non-essentials to check out Win10. My home computer, it wasn't that much of a improvement. I like the interface. I haven't used Win8. I've seen it but never really used it. My home computer did not gain any speed and in actuality is slower in my own opinion. I did another computer at the office to let the kids play. They complain that it is slower than the Win7 machine and an older WinXP machine. I haven't had time to try it out. Still haven't pulled the trigger to install on my office computer. I think I will wait for a few more updates and to see how some of the issues iron out. One specific is the continuous connection to the internet. The other issue is it won't be be free after some certain date. Not sure when that is. I don't mind moving up (unlike some people) but I do have reservations with all of the negativity about it.

No to Windows 10. Not now. Not planned.
Do not like interface.
Do not like Microsoft monitoring everything.
Do not want to be continuously connected to the internet.
Do not want to use Flash and do not want to use Javascript.
Will continue to use Mac with older system.
When Macs get bad enough, I'll switch to Unix or Linux.
After that, I'll probably be pushing up daisies.

Note that the first major update is scheduled for November 12, so it's entirely possible (or not) that many issues will be resolved. We'll see.

Also, I truly appreciate the honest feedback thus far. I knew you guys wouldn't pull any punches. 🙂

Im running win 10 and autocad c3d 2016
some bugs but if you disable hardware acceleration its working crash free

you dont have to have a microsoft account to run windows 10 but when you set it up it appears that way

I only upgrade because hardware becomes obsolete
a replacement printer might be hard to find in 5 years if your still running win 7

Upgraded all of my machines about a month ago. I love W10. All the good stuff from 8 and 7. I really really liked 7. But I think 10 is better. Or at least that has been my experience.

I've upgraded all of my machines with only minor issues, but most of my software is recent so that helped. My Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012 survived the upgrade to Win10 but lost the ability to natively create pdf's and email them (could still create pdf's using Adobe then manually attach to email). My attempts to update the pdf driver to a Win10 compliant driver resulted in having to reinstall Peachtree. Oddly, even though Peachtree survived the upgrade to Win10 and was functioning fine, it will not reinstall. Gotta love progress.

I don't recommend Windows 10, purely due to the Privacy Agreement.

I find it runs fine; probably faster than Windows 7. No issues with running it in VM's either. Light years better than 8.1.

I'm running it on two of my five machines. I have not had any problem with Windows 10 with the exception of the lake of drivers for my HP Design Jet 800. Most of my software is current, or at least not that old, but I do have LDD 2009 working fine. Some stuff takes a little getting used to but it always good to stretch the old grey matter.

I will be making the switch of the final machines when I determine if the processing software for my rail cart works well with 10 & I figure out how to best implement my peer-to-peer server on 10.

Hi
Has anyone experienced a error cannot install drive is locked? And offer solutions? WindowsUpdate error code C1900101 dt000
Not a big deal as win 7 is operating fine, but its a bit frustrating.

HP Z440 Workstation with SSD installed by supplier seems to be the issue. We found no bitlocker encryption, no HP drive lock. Have used HP system and drive checks, chkdsk /f And Scandisk etc. Have disabled anti virus and other programmes.
Intel Xeon E5-1620 v3 processor 3.50GHz, 16.0 ram 64 bit Win 7 pro
Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite 2016 (Civil 3d)

Other workstations running engineering and architectural software, with no apparent issues. We have an old print/plotter server that cannot be updated and will eventually be scrapped along with the old Richo A0 plotter scanner.

Home computer and laptops running Windows 10, no issues.

Mostly win 7 around here, with an XP machine sprinkled in.
Can't check any of your poll, as my answer would be upgrade, but at the last possible second. That should give MS a chance to iron most of the bugs out.
