I have been hesitant to use the Intellicad version of Carlson Survey/Civil, but yesterday I found out I could download it and keep my ACAD version of Carlson running too. I installed it and gave it a quick test. I AM SHOCKED!! Is the Intellicad 8.2 with Carlson the substitute that I have been waiting for for years, in hopes that the AutoDESK arrogance could be wiped out of my office forever?
Would appreciate feedback from others who have made the transition. I am going to run both for a while, but I think that Bruce and Dave Carlson have really done our profession a service by sticking with Intellicad--or at least I hope so.
The answer to your question is "Yes, but be aware that AutoCAD is more stable than IntelliCAD. When running IntelliCAD, I can expect the program to crash a few times per week, sometimes a few times a day if there's something wrong with the drawing file I'm working on. Oftentimes, the crashes happen during the simplest of commands, so it's quite baffling why things go boom. Make a habit of saving your work after every couple of commands, if you don't already do so, or you will find yourself re-doing 15 minutes worth of work a number of times per week."
I just recently purchased a license of Carlson GIS with the Intellicad engine. It seems ot run pretty good. It has crashed once, and I don't have a clue why.
My Carlson Survey 2016 OEM is my go to drafting choice, but the Intellicad appears to be a pretty good alternative for the basic stuff.

Mostly. C3d 2014 would crash several times each day. Subsequent releases have been better.
I'm running 8.1b in Microsurvey and can vouch this is the best iteration of Intellicad I have ever used.
I also went over to Win 10 Pro so can't comment on other Win versions.
I would expect similar benefits would translate to Carlson.
I seldom have crashes and have a far more peaceful existence when using the program.

I purchased 'Carlson 2011 with Intellicad, used it only for field to finish because of the crashes. I believe it was Intellicad 6.6. When Intellicad came out with 7.1 I updated to 2016 and was so frustrated with the crashes that I was still using AutoCAD 2000 for all my main drafting. I finally upgraded to the OEM version which pretty much ended my problems, other than there was a learning curve moving from AutoCad 2002 to 2016. I don't know about Intellicad 8.2. It cost me an extra 1500 to go to the OEM version but it was worth it in my opinion. I haven't had to pay the upgrade to 2017 yet. I'm sure I'll bi*ch and moan about it, but will end up paying it. I have a project I am close to completing that requires surface models in Civil 3d, so I have been paying the 265 per month since July, can't wait to get that monkey off my back. I could have probably exported the Carlson Surface out to Civil 3d but decided that this was an opportunity to teach my self something new. Now that I have used Civil 3d, I will miss multileaders. The OEM version of Carlson is a stripped down version of Autocad.

The early days of Carlson with ACAD were pretty unstable too. I haven't tried the ICAD version lately, but it was a bit clunky years ago, I'm glad they've improved it some.
Yes it is. I am crash free since I switched 100% to Intellicad in March 2016.
I have been using Carslon Survey Intellicad since 2011 version and I am fed up with having to open and print my Intellicad saved drawings in Autocad Trueview just to make sure everything looks as it should when opened in Autocad. I have trialed some of the new versions as well.
After using many non-autodesk based products and after opening many drawings by other surveyors created in non autodesk based products, my opinion is that if you are sharing drawings dwg files with clients who are using Autocad, you do need to be using an Autocad based product. Do I like this, no.
If you are just printing off your own drawings and not sending electronic copies then Intellicad is ok.
I plan on switching to the embedded carlson version next year. I presume Autocad will have a new format dwg in their 2018 release as one is due.
Been using Intellicad with Carlson 2017, and the biggest issue I see is that M-text has its quirks, especially auto line numbering, and tab settings. It's workable, but sometimes you have to be creative.
