crew is provide a set of plans with datum statement, being on the local state plane. Crew establishes connectivity the local Net, assumes the proper projection and begins staking clearing limits. After a couple of hours the crew has worked their way to control shown on the plan set and check, only to find the control point is 2-ft larger in the Northerly coordinate than reported on the plan set. Addition plan set control is checked finding the same error in the Northern coordinate. Further checking isolates the error to the plan set. Crew localizes to the plan set control and continues staking. Next day the crew moves the clearing limits North 2-ft for work done before the localization. Did they adjust the stakes correctly?
The problem should not have occurred initially with a check first, then stake procedure, but the blunder was committed and repair was necessary. Only question for the client is, was the fix to the North the correct choice?

Trick question on a Friday afternoon approaching the cocktail hour. No fair.

crew wanted stakes at a northing of 9000.00 checked control and expected control to be at northing of 10,000.00. Found instead control was at N10,002.00 Then stakes set previously were at N9002.00. Previous stakes need to be moved south 2.00' in order to be at desired N9000.00
Or..........did they really want them 1000.00 south of the control???
That's an easy one.
Get a crew that CHECKS the control BEFORE they start doing anything!

Two foot for clearing limits?
The operating engineers are that good?
Email the designer and cc the world telling him/her to move their plans 2' south:smarty::smarty::smarty:
there is a 2' shift between NAD83(86) and newer CORS epochs, could be the coordinates are very good, hold the site control!!!!!
why would they not tie it first???????
they would be fixing it on their own time, make them learn something

They could be, if on an east-west corridor.

First thought - no they should have been moved south, but actually.
If the control point had been staked on the first day it would have been 2 foot to the south of the existing control point.
Therefore it (and all the other points staked on the first day) would need to be moved 2 foot north to match the existing control.
Control is great and everything but I always check the matchline with physical features before staking, nobody is going to be too impressed that you are on the right datum regardless of monuments if you miss the curb by three feet.

If this was the case, stakes should have been set 1000' feet south of the control point. If they staked them at a northing of 9000' and found the CP to be at 10,002' than the relative difference is 1002'. Shift em' north!
Sounds like it is possibly a double correction on the datum. Job was set up assuming the base station was pumping out cors 96 corrections or vice versa.

I would have the crew go back and check a couple 3 of the restakes, just to be sure.
I agree with Scott; 2' for clearing limits? Then again, cutting down the wrong tree can get expensive...
