subtitled- cooperate and graduate.....
got comments back on a plat I submitted to a state agency for review.
My S, T, R format was T.16 N., R. 22 W. " please remove the periods..."
My format for lats and long was 48^52'53.23" N. 114^30'30.25" W. "please remove periods from N. and W. on all references to..."
My format for M high and low water was M H W & M L W- "please remove spaces...."
My format for an address was KALISPELL MT 59904 "please add a comma and remove extra spaces...."
:-/
Hey, if you had to throw their dog a bone, you got off pretty easy. Always leave a little something in there so that they can prove that they are doing their job by requiring a revision. Still sucks, tho'
over the top
and off the hook. Uh oh, two minutes to Wapner!

USPS used to ask for 3 spaces between state and zip code. Now they ask for 2.
P.S. "Anal retentive" rather than "anal retenant." (A self-referential comment.)
Send them a nice memo; asking to please show, in the state guidelines, where the comments are addressed.
Sometimes we're talking more about english and its proper use than we are surveying. I believe this is one of those cases.
We use to have issues like this in a few counties over here. In fact, one county is asking that all dedicated right-of-ways be described by metes and bounds and have an acreage attached for taxing purposes. Same thing, show us in state code that covers this.
Overuse of periods is a menace to the health and safety of the public;-)
Exactly!
I usually tell these reviewers to go pound sand or they can stamp it themselves (unless of course their comment actually reflects the statute). I really have had it with bureaucratic nit-wits who justify their job with silly comments and wasting my time.
Rant over
Some people have to justify their jobs.
Please replace "right-of-ways" with "rights-of-way." 😀
With those kind of serious mistakes, your lucky you still have your license!
Just make the changes as suggested and THANK them for pointing out your errors.
(Next time they might let something really serious slide by - like typing a number from the qwerty keyboard rather than from the number pad):-O
LOL

Geezer
Could the "editing" be a result of Optical Character Recognition problems? Some scanning operations require seemly goofy rules.
Warning, warning, biblical reference being made
As a survey reviewer, I attempt to stick to the "do unto others as you would have others do unto you" mode of comment. There are others, however, who feel they must find something, somewhere, no matter how minor or insignificant so as to remind the submitter that they need to adhere to someone else's idea of correctness.
Back when I use to review plats for the State, I had one surveyor write me back with reference to some of my comments on his plat stating, 'When you go and publish the 'Manual of Style', I'll be happy to comply with your review commment x,y & z.'
Had to admit to myself he had a valid point.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

I think it's "Elements of Style" 🙂

remove the periods and replace with dashes
T-16-N, R-22-W
Remove periods and the N & W in the lat/long and change to the Greek letters lambda and phi for lat/long
Change the MLH and MWH font to "Olde English"
This is good opportunity for you to show your dedication to detail. 😀
You are not alone, the reviews are the same here.
My favorite was one who asked that I spell out the word "North" above my north arrow where I just had the letter "N". Really? I thought that was one abbreviation that every one knew.
