The reported "feels like" number is 123 F.

You will notice I am hiding inside (shady) but with no AC going.  Two fans.

Could be worse.

Heard Miami, Oklahoma set a record "feels like" high today at 126 F for the State.

Mid 50’s here.  I put on a long sleeve shirt this morning. I’ve forgotten what it’s like wearing wet underwear all day.  Gross

Tomorrow getting another ready to go. Headed out of town. 2 crew chiefs out for surgery and i am on deck. Lol.

Just south of you Miami, OK (pronounced My-AM-uh) reported a record heat index of 126.1 today.  Down in Norman we were at a chilly 114.

The 'maters and all my basil are burnt up.  This is the first year I've ever seen zinnias succumb to the heat.  Yesterday I was out on a job in a cut field that was just stubble.  The reflective and radiant heat was unbearable.  From my experience with working on fresh asphalt I would guess the temp in the field at four feet above the ground was about 150.

I may move north...

The kind of heat that just sucks the air right out of your lungs and doesn't let any return.

Perhaps we should move to Cally Forny where they get torrential rains, mud slides and a 5+ earthquake all at the same time.

@holy-cow

Wife's family is all nestled in a little 'burb of Milwaukee called Cudahy, right on the shore of Lake Michigan.  When we're up there my wife can't keep me away from the lake.  It's a pretty fantastic spot for a guy that grew up thinking lake water was red...

In my dreams I'd like to have a place there to stay for the summers and falls.  Once November hits you can have all of those latitudes you want.  Last time I was there in the winter it was 15 below.  People were still standing at the stop waiting for a bus.

My wife's cousin has a snowblower collection he's so proud of....he has to show it to me every time we're up there.  I guess that cold gets to your brains after a few years... 😉

This summer has been brutally hot.  Even for Louisiana!  What don't kill ya just makes you stronger.  Drink my friend.

1:21 P.M. Tuesday   We are down to only 96 F with a "feels like" of 118 F.

I feel sorry for the nice people at the Funeral Home who aren't likely to show up at the Graveside Service in Hawaiian Flowerdy shirts, shorts and flip flops.

Don't forget, the temps (both real and feels like) are taken "IN THE SHADE". good grief!

@ozzy84 the temperature of the air, which is what we try to measure when we are talking about weather isn't different in the sun and the shade. We put thermometers in the shade because otherwise the thermometer itself absorbs energy from the sun and we end up measuring the temperature of the thermometer instead of the air.

Of.coirse your body absorbs energy directly from the sun too, which is why you get hotter in the sun than the shade, even though the air temperature is the same.

If you want the air temperature to be warmer in the sun you need a greenhouse (or a car with closed windows)..

If you want to spend a few thousand on a thermistor with a thin enough wire, you can measure the air temperature in the full sun.

"Feels like" is hogwash, developed because people can't figure out for themselves what 90 degrees and 90% humidity, or 0 degrees and 40mph wind feels like, it's a combination of wind chill and heat index, both arbitrary scales based on how people reported feeling, ignoring that everyone's body replaponds differently, and the reposnse depends on all kinds of things, like whether you are standing still at a total station or cutting line.

@aliquot Jerry Reed said when you’re hot you’re hot when you’re not you’re not. So feelings do not matter .

Whatever your opinion about heat index and wind chill, they should be relative to compare between days. Local weather man reported that exactly 8 months ago yesterday the wind chill here was -21. Heat index yesterday was 116. Both felt like it to me.

Both indices are calculated from a scientific model that tries to represent the rate of heat transfer from bare skin under those temperature and humidity, or temperature and wind conditions.

On the bright side this could be one of the coolest summers in the rest of our life times.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Ever is quite an odd term when you think about it.  Is this "ever" as in since the time of the US Weather Bureau being established or since some other scientific means of evaluating ice melt 23400 years ago versus 23401 years ago.
