That is quite impressive, but which of the 3 blue lines within 1/2" of each other is grid line "D"?

You will never have a working site that is that clear or flat to allow that kind of thing to be used effectively. Marking roads however, yes, it would be great for that.

@minbarwinkle?ÿ

Yeah, I want to see that thing mark a slab that has concrete dust and water all over it, underneath a dozen piles of material that have been staged there, hopping over electrical cords and air hoses and dodging contractors along the way.

On the flip side, I have seen a handful of projects that are clean enough for it to work, and it would probably have saved a lot of time on those.

Respectfully, I disagree.

By contract, for layout of interior walls, areas of work are to be clear of all obstruction and debris.

Yep.

And if you don't embrace that, you'll get left behind.

On most the sites I've seen it wouldn't work. 1) you have to pay one guy to babysit it, 2) It's not actually moving that fast: Imagine how fast two workers can chalk a line. It's more than twice as slow. It's probably over 4 times as slow.

As far as junk/obstructions: In my sector good luck. You can complain to the GC. You can try to make them pay for lost time, but it's a bad idea. Especially when your competition isn't complaining. Given the speed of that thing, the next issue appears: How long are you able to have that thing roll around while the other trades need in the area?

It's neat that it even prints the door swings. That looks cool but it's 100% marketing. Typical, each individual trade is responsible for their own layout(s) so although it would be cool to lay everything down it will never happen. Too much liability not enough reward. I wish it weren't like that because it limits a lot of potential and creates a lot of overlap, but it's the nature of the beast.

Guys that are experienced doing layout are FAST. And with wages the way they are, at least here in Western Canada, you won't break even buying that thing.
