I use Google Earth for recon and reference. I generally use it several times a day on different jobs just checking miscellaneous stuff. Here's a little "field check" I did just to see what the measurement would be. It's "pretty darn close".

You should let them know so they can fix that error... 😉

The good news is it measures 299.05', the bad news is that it's in Canada. 😀

That's a good way to peg the googles, Paden. I took my googles to two test ranges and the results were much better that RTK:

Mike,

Distances look good but I think someone has a rotation problem. Looks like the ducks can't even get their stadium to a cardinal direction.

The results from New England's field appear a little deflated.

I use it to check things that seem off just to reassure myself a measurement wasn't faulty. If it is, I go re-measure.

I also you it for FEMA maps. The overlay you can download from fema is world's better than looking at the FIRM

and most of all I use Google Earth, overhead view and street view, to scout properties when deciding on prices for a proposal.

Or see where houses are... or measure to get a rough idea where a monument will be... or sometimes look to see if monuments shown on filed maps happen to be sticking up at any street corners.... or....

I guess I use it a lot....

I use it all the time. I used to use it more when I could import straight into acad but that is broken now and I can't seem to fix it.

Just a hair off topic, but only sort of. The following link is for random street views in Google Maps. All over the world. I think it's pretty cool...

Here in New England we have "field stretchers". The playing field is only 290' when the Patriots have the ball....but when the opposing team is about to take possession, the field stretchers make it 320'.

But don't tell anyone...it will just start another witch hunt.....can't wait for Kick-off!!!!
