Note to @holy-cow: please forgive my spelling and grammar. I can assure you that I know better. ???? ???

I'm not sure how many folks actually read my "Website Updates for blah blah blah" posts, but you may have noticed the lack of them for the last 9 or 10 months. I figured I'd give you an update, so you don't think things are stagnant. Cuz they ain't.

We are nearing version 2.0 of this forum software, the beta release of which is due out within the next several days. I will be testing it extensively. The forum will mostly function as it has for the last few years with this software, with some fixes, improvements, and new features.

I don't want to let the cat out of the bag, but perhaps I'll let him peek his face out briefly:

  • Member profiles will be improved. I've never really liked them as they are, and the next version promises to be much better.
  • You will be able to follow other members (kinda like Twitter).
  • You will be able to mark specific topics as your favorites. They will be listed in your profile so you can easily find them again later.
  • There will be a Topic Overview section at the beginning of each topic, providing statistics and a tree layout of the posts within.
  • Overall forum styles will be updated.

That's all I'm going to say about new stuff at this point. Back in the bag you go, kitty! ???

When the beta is ready, I'll be running some tests and trying to work out as many bugs as possible. It could be a month or more from now before I make the update to the live site, simply because I want to make sure it's stable. There will always be some things to deal with after a big upgrade, but I want to minimize those.

Are you ready kids?

For the youngsters here, the thread title relates to Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball.?ÿ Search for them on Google, Bing, Whatever.

More than once, Desi was heard to say."Luuuuuuuucy.?ÿ You got some 'splaining to do."

Not seeing any updates led me to believe you had achieved perfection with the forum. Not having any complaints, I was happy with that illusion.

Have fun with your tinkering. I'm sure it will consume huge amounts of time, while infusing you with the frustration and delight that come from successful problem solving.

Personally, I am like the character "Sheldon Cooper" on The Big Bang Theory when it comes to change.?ÿ Change to fix a problem is fine, but change to add gadgets & widgets or to make a product look and feel like some different product, no thanks!

Will one of the improvements be more control over the "mark all read" button? It would be nice if we had the ability to mark some sub-forums as read and leave other forums as unread.?ÿ
