The original poster's avatar was offensive. The same poster has used offensive avatars in the past. I don't see any reason to consider a post to be useful when it is coming from someone like that. After checking I can see that the avatar has been changed to the default. Thank you.

As I said, the follow-up replies were also politically motivated. In the future, the best course of action is to use the report function associated with the offending post, instead of engaging with trolls. You folks would likely catch it before I do, so the reporting tool is helpful in having it removed quickly.

It is tempting to try to slip in a little bit of politics BUT I REMEMBER the old days when P&R was allowed.?ÿ Things could go downhill incredibly fast on both sides of whatever the main topic was.?ÿ The ensuing name calling could get as ugly as a witch riding a vacuum cleaner.

Agreed. It is indeed difficult to hold back. But as you pointed out, it can get ugly quickly. And it got REAL ugly many, many times prior to 2012 before I removed all P&R.?ÿ

There's a local diner where a bunch of us old geezers congregate on Thursday mornings.?ÿ We usually just talk about our wives or the medicine we take.?ÿ Surprisingly politics rarely comes up as a topic.?ÿ But there are two fellas that have ongoing dialogue about which is 'better', Ford or Chevy.?ÿ The dialogue can get heated between the two at times.

The owner and queen bee waitress is Marge.?ÿ Apparently the topic reached a crescendo one morning, and Marge had to get in the middle of the two to keep peace in her establishment.?ÿ I wasn't there but I understand it was spectacular.?ÿ Someone wound up wearing a glass of water.?ÿ The entire group was threatened with neutering if Marge ever heard the words Ford or Chevy again.?ÿ

I think Wendell is a lot nicer in his approach. ;)?ÿ

Didn't see it.?ÿ Glad it is gone.?ÿ Politics have about ruined another board that I am on.?ÿ And even if the forum will continue, I just can't look at some of the members the same way anymore, which is sad.?ÿ A couple of internet friends.?ÿ A couple of friends I have met and spend time with due to that forum.?ÿ Not sure how I can continue to associate with them when I know some of their underlying beliefs that would never have come up, and are not relevant to our friendship.

Sounds like the dead pecker club, so neutering is an idle threat.

That was a big part of the problem.?ÿ It was easy to lose respect for a person's surveying ability when you were able to see they lived at the far end of a very wide spectrum.?ÿ Didn't matter which end.

I have belonged to numerous on-line groups. This is the only 'no p&r' place I've found that actually puts in the work to tamp it down.
