I just got a text from an engineer at a company I worked for 3-4 years ago, that he's going to file a formal complaint to the Board, because I declined his request last night to stamp something now, from when I worked there.
This is what I mean when I say that I used to work for, and with A-holes in high stress atmospheres.?ÿ I'm sure he's getting pressure to get me to do this, but this threat and attitude really pisses me off
Wow.
Looks like a fun show.
Keep us posted.
Popping popcorn.
Hell would freeze over before I'd sign after being threatened.?ÿ I'd be more likely to document the situation and report him to his own board for unethical behavior.?ÿ
Merry Christmas. Now go file your complaint and pound sand.?ÿ
Your BOR probably does not appreciate being used to twist arms.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
I have seen "complaints" like this backfire. Asking (threatening) a licensee to do something unethical and possibly illegal can spin the investigation onto the complainant, if they are also licensed (as an engineer by the same Board). He may want to rethink his tactic.
You have zero to worry about IMO.
It's an empty threat intended to intimidate you into complying. Stand your ground.
Thanks for the replies.?ÿ It's more just venting than being worried about anything.
Ironically, this guy is one of the reasons I left there, and I don't think that even occurs to him
Stand your ground.?ÿ Document today's communication.?ÿ Then send a complaint to the Board for review of his problematic behavior.
Different standards from the time it was completed in the field 'till now. Must be re-surveyed to the current standards. Do the re-survey for the standard rate plus $25K for the threat.
Stand your ground.?ÿ Document today's communication.?ÿ Then send a complaint to the Board for review of his problematic behavior.
This 100 times.?ÿ
Without going into any details I had a guy that use to work for me threaten to take me down with the BOR if I didn't do what he wanted. Long story short I downloaded the thread of his texted threats and forwarded them on to BOR. Never heard another word from the jack wad making the threats and he wasn't licensed. With that in his file it's doubtful that he ever will be. It was unprofessional in the extreme.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
You can fire me, but you can't tell me what to do.?ÿ?ÿ
He would be a fool to report you to the Board.?ÿ Tell him to cut bait.
Unfortunately, I blocked his number after his threat, not wanting to get into a pissing match.?ÿ And I didn't know that blocking a number deletes all texts.?ÿ Oh, well
Thinking I might just call his boss tomorrow and let him know what's going on.?ÿ Probably won't.?ÿ This kind of crap is why I left this place and similar companies behind, and am in the no stress place I'm at now.
Thanks to all of you

@jph?ÿ
You got this.
I support you, as well as everyone else. If your actions and decisions were above board and righteous in the rules and regs, I'd completely destroy this idiot with all possible means for threatening me. But that's me.
I still have too much P&V running through my veins for a few similar instances that were long ago.
My better 85% sent me this:

I'm still trying to learn this more, and still hold onto to this mantra:

For things like you're being exposed to because you earned everything you've got, achieved and completed.
People like that are truly miserable and I'm done with giving them the benefit of the doubt because they don't deserve it.
?ÿ
Sorry. Those scars are deep.
Filing a board complaint using his emails and phone calls would be all it takes.
?ÿ
No heavy pipe swinging mofos needed.

????
Hopefully the intimidating whole gets a karmic ass munching.
My sentiments exactly - his karma will catch up with him eventually
- but it can be really satisfying to have it happen in real time...
Sounds like extortion to me.

I would take it very seriously if he does file a complaint, which from just the fact that you haven't been employed for 3-4 years seems absurd.?ÿ
If there isn't something else going on and he does proceed I would start with my insurance carrier. They would not look kindly on a complaint like that. Plus they have attorneys that should be "free" (my liability insurance is a big bill each year) to put into action.?ÿ
Surveyors tend to think of the board in these situations, but this seems to be walking the line of criminal activity.
Frankly, a strong letter with a bull-dog attorney's letter head can defuse situations like this, if the attorney is free for you, even better.?ÿ
?ÿ
I agree, and I was starting to think about that more.?ÿ It was definitely an implied threat.?ÿ Too bad I destroyed the evidence.

I wouldn't sweat not having that evidence. Even if he does go to the effort to file a complaint, the board will probably dismiss it for lack of a valid reason for a complaint. He's basically asking you to rubber-stamp something.
