Glen, how did I miss that, it's classic, things look really tiny.

Banff is in Canada. That's fine if you are marketing to Canadian Surveyors. But American Surveyor Magazine is probably not the best venue for that.

And the guy is wearing a hard hat. Even if he were looking through the correct end of the level, the bill of the hat would make for some tough viewing.

Where exactly does an inexpensive auto-level fit into the "full geospatial workflow" anyway?

Finally, one of my pet peeves when viewing a photo of a surveyor in the field: Setting the instrument HI at about 4.5' so that any normal individual would have to be bent over to fit the eyepiece. Apologies to those out there of diminutive stature. No harm intended.

We were doing a boundary survey for a cement plant in the mid-90s and were required to wear hard hats.  A bird pooping was the only protection we would have received where we were working.  We could have done the job in about one-third the time using a four-wheeler.  Nope.  Absolutely forbidden on their property.  My co-worker could have died from poison ivy, but, that would have been OK.

- And has adopted the 'high-latitude' tripod head

(I also suspect using Canada to sell to Americans is much more successful than vice-versa at present)

The instrument man was always wearing his hat backwards or sidewise. Never thought that would become cool. Same with Carhartt's. How those became trendy is a mystery. 

Until now the most ridiculous one I had ever seen was the model resting his hand on the tripod. 

Nothing is eVeR GOING to make y’all happy- back in the 80’s the ads had bikini models with the gear…. Couldn’t have that!!!!! now we have a worker with all the gear but y’all just pick pick pick!!!!! 😂 😂 😂

Serious now. There are enough women in this business now to make that approach inadvisable. 

Perhaps the ad could be modified to show a woman knocking the fake surveyor to the ground thus protecting the instrument as a reversal to the GoodGood Golf ad that has caused an uproar.

I had no idea what you were referencing, so I watched it. 

In the realm of "What were they thinking?" that's a top ten bad ad. 

Funny though, you're probably correct, reverse the genders NP.
