Creature A:
He wants all my surveys to be tied to everything. Not just set a point, BASED on somebody elses survey, But My own tie. And, all the pertinent deeds are looked at, and considered. We call this my "A" guy.
Creature B:
He wants my schedule to remain intact, and my bank account to overflow. Wants FAST plats, and does not even care if monuments were set. Just get her billed.
Creature A usually wins. But, lately Creature B has been making more noise than before. I want a nice new GPS system. But, do you know who wants it? Creature A. And, that makes Creature B mad!
🙂
Happy Weekend to all!

In my experience, both creatures get benefits.
But that is probably because we are a recording state and every survey since 2005 has had to be grid datum and coordinated.
With a bit of office work beforehand, using a gps to locate marks very efficiently in the field keeps creature b very happy. Creature a is kept happy because longer connections can be done to surrounding surveys with ease to ensure a correct boundary definition.
Obviously YMMV.
"we are a recording state and every survey since 2005 has had to be grid datum and coordinated."
What a concept.
I wonder how many of our 50 states require that. Seems like some states don't even require a surveyor to put their number on their corners.
OOPS.... maybe this should be a separate thread. Sorry Nate.
Fish, or cut bait, Fish or cut bait!
No, no, Nate. It's fish and cut bait at the same time. 99 percent of time spent fishing is wasted so you just as well cut bait, too.
Surveying is a very different thing. You must find a balance point that is constantly moving on you. Wham, bam, thank ya Ma'am can happen, but rarely. Fifty hours in and 20 hours billed can happen, as well. It comes down to how the business end, not the technical end, is handled. If a significant portion of your clients feel they are being gouged, they may be correct. Most will feel they are spending way more than they would prefer but recognize that everything is overpriced these days. Bought any new tires for $25 lately?
The fact that you are still having the internal argument probably means you're ok. When one side takes over you're toast...
Thirty years ago my wife and I decided to send our kids to Catholic School. I was Baptist so I had to go through process of becoming Catholic. I will always remember the Priest, teaching the class somehow getting on the topic of masturbation. To which he responded "I too suffer from this affliction!" I always respected him as a fellow human being, but it ruined my taking communion from him. Anyone in a competitive environment can relate and the fact that you recognize Creature A and B puts you ahead of the game in my book!

Affliction?....pffft....
It's mine dude, I'll wash it as fast as I want to! 😉
I too have internal silent talking mechanisms which require me to verbally respond. So if you happen to see some fool wandering around mumbling to himself, itÛªs probably me. Sad part is when you get my age you have a tendency to forget what you were talking to yourself about in the first place. :'(
One evening, an elderly
cherokee brave told his
grandson about a battle that
goes on inside people.
he said "my son, the battle is
between two 'wolves' inside us all.
one is evil.
it is anger,
envy, jealousy, sorrow,
regret, greed, arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride,
superiority, and ego.
the other is good.
it is joy, peace love, hope serenity,
humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity,
truth, compassion and faith."
the grandson thought about
it for a minute and then asked
his grandfather:
"which wolf wins?..."
the old cherokee simply replied,
"the one that you feed"
THERE'S A LITTLE YELLOW MAN IN MY HEAD....

All 6 of the states I work do require a identifying cap or something to ID the corners. Though Texas was the last to come to that conclusion.
Well, Nate, are you still suffering from dualism?
I have gotten myself into life, on a deeper level than I ever thought possible. Most of my problems are family problems. My mom thinks she needs to come and take my wife's place, in our home. My Mother in law thinks we are nuts off the charts. We are having the time of our lives. Our oldest in near 17, Big help has been operating and maintaining heavy equipment all summer. The oldest 5 ride unicycles. They are working on hunting a bear, that they found on their game camera. I have more clients than I can say grace over. I find all kinds of crazy compromise on surveys, and I am dedicated to bringing a better product to market. This takes time. I am debating the merits of Folgers dark, and Community Dark. Had 3 flat tires the other day. The local shop charged me 890 to put a new front end in my van. I had bought all the parts, MOOG brand, so he could do in all in less than 4 hrs. I thought it was a bit steep. We are headed to the lake, to do a picnic. The cow is due to calve any day. The sun is shining. And clients are calling. Deer season is just ahead. The politicians are doing all they can to make this country into some thing I don't think is good. The Preachers are trying to calm everybody, but avoid the problems. The music has already started, and I cannot find my dance shoes!

It sounds like the good overwhelms the bad, to that is good! Enjoy it.
What ever happened with the funky freezer?

Every generation of man has had two different disciplines of thought.
1. Follow the lines
2. Throw caution to the wind
Either can bring good or bad results.
One thing that I can tell for sure, "There is no easy button", there are a lot of buttons and they can keep you on your toes.
:gammon:
Funkey Freezer got dumped out, and, (we think) the contents attracted a bear (different bear) and, it sat empty on it's side for a few months. One of my sons figured out that a rodent had chopped a wire, and funky is back freezing....
Life is like that...!
