What do you recommend for a good submeter handheld for recon and possibly for rough mapping?
I have used a mobile mapper CE in the past, probably now obsolete, with ArcPad post processing option. I didn't really care for ArcPad, and frankly never got used to it. I bought Carlson GISCE to go on it, and afterward found out it didn't have a "go to" feature, so it was pretty much useless for recon, and they afterward quit supporting GISCE. I ran a demo version of Fast Survey, which is basically SurvCE, which was OK for the first 30 or so points.
What say ye? Any suggestions? Hoping for real time centimeter accuracy under heavy canopy for under 1K 🙂
TIA, JT.

Everyone would like something like that......The Mobile Mapper mode on a PM3 would probably be as close as anything you have mentioned....

Anyone used any of it?

The Trimble Leap looks cool. I haven't used one, but I like the idea of using a smart phone v. the normal clunky hardware.

It is hard to beat SurvCE GNSS on a MobileMapper 120 with GLONASS. SurvCE GNSS will do everything you would ever want to do, in the USA you will get 1/4 meter horizontal repeatability (elsewhere just 1/2 meter) on the MM120, GLONASS makes it work under moderate cover reasonably well (but still with a loss of precision.)

I'll take a look at it. I emailed you guys for a recommendation before posting, but didn't hear anything back, so I tried here.

Take a look at the Leica Zeno 20, capable of 5cm or better accuracy as a handheld plus it appears to be a lot of other added benefits.

Unless you can get a steal on a MM120, I wouldn't recommend it. The GNSS performance is the only upside, the hardware itself isn't what I would consider reliable.

Mark, I couldn't find that set up on your site. How much does that run with SurvCE?

Yes, the GNSS performance is great, but the platform can have issues. No WiFi is a big deal.

Figure in the cost of a 2-year extended warranty (which extends factory warranty to 3-years) [$556] then you basically know what it will cost over it's life.

They appear to be crazy expensive, but when compared to other solutions, not so much...
