It's going to rain on the project this week but I need to make progress anyway. I think it's going to rain through June. I've seen this Spring pattern before here in Northern California and it usually doesn't break until early June. The upside is everything is green instead of dead like it was through December. We are having one of those years where the wet season gets shifted two months into Spring.
I said to Bonnie, "I need a rain coat."
So she goes to the broom closet and pulls out a men's extra large Land's End hooded raincoat that fits me perfectly. She said, "I got this at a thrift store." I swear it looks like new. It has a lightweight half wool liner so hopefully it isn't too warm but I think it'll be OK because the temps will be in the mid-50s.
Yeah yeah I know Oregon and Washington surveyors work in the rain routinely; I've heard the stories about Rite-n-Rain pages sticking together it rains so much. We avoid it if we can but I'm not going to sit in the office for 2 months because of some spring rainfall.
All the northwest surveyors applaud your courage.
🙂
Reminds me of a story: Rod man fresh from some mythical land where there is this fabled thing called sunshine, he has just moved to Seattle. It starts to rain, and he asked his party chief, "What do we do when it rains?."
The crusty old chief gave him a slightly confused look and said,"We %&#$ work!"
I don't melt in the rain. I get diluted.
uh..Dave..
Does Bonnie have any other men's clothes in the closet that you don't know about?
> Aye, but it makes us savour the sunny days even more.
>
> And it keeps the lightweights from over-running our fine state.
>
> Happy Sunday.
Yes, and please don't let them know about the nice day we are having today!

I worked in the North West in the rain for 15 years. I was told we don't go out in it here in Kansas, but I still carry my rain suit. The last few weeks it's been wet off and on, and we are backed up on the schedule. They had us out in the rain a few days, and I'm glad to have my gear in the truck. It looks like our Spring is going to be wet, so more working in the rain to come. We get a lot of lightening, we still sit in the truck or call it a day for those storms. Weird weather here the last 4 weeks. 70-85, or rain and 50-65. Thunder Storms in the forecast tomorrow.
A little bit of rain would be nice here in the northeast. We are having severe fire danger warnings. But then we had snow flurries today.
Mid 70's and clear today for us. I was stuck inside all day hitting the books for Fridays State Specific Exam, but found an hour this evening for the garden.
I would trade a few of those raining days for our 125 degrees day with no dang shade tree to take a break under. Those days are just around the corner for us here.
I expect this pattern to continue into early June. It will rain every week in Northern California. It does green up everything nicely.
It seems like we get these years where the wet season is shifted 2 months into Spring. We had one two years ago.
We had a record dry December and not much in January.
The wife got a really nice London Fog formal chesterfield at the Salvation Army for twenty bucks, fits me like it was tailor made and looks great with the tux. It cost more to have it dry cleaned than she paid for it, probably 75% of my work wardrobe used to come from the thrift stores.
Every male in the country is a 32/32 at some point in their life, so pants are no big deal, usually get some good brand names in great condition.
As far as practical rain gear, I prefer ponchos although it is getting harder and harder to find good ones. The disposable ones have their place, easy to carry in the tool pouch although pretty much single use. Stern used to make a really good one, still have two that are probably several years old.
Anybody else have a good source for a real deal rain poncho?

If you watch the paper out here, there are days in the Spring, where the highs and lows for the day in Omaha are greater than the record highs and lows in Seattle.

Army Basic Training ...
Big shock - first week in Basic Training and I heard the Drill Sergeant yell for everyone to "Fall out for formation! I sputtered, "but it's raining ..." and so I was introduced to reality. Brrrr.
rain???
what is this thing you call rain??? warm and sunny here in Phoenix, low 90's expected today. our local weatherman promises temps back in mid-70's by this weekend, I hope he's correct this time. Phoenix often has about 100+ consecutive days from April into July withour measurable rain - this year looks like one of those again. at least it's a dry heat....:-P
rain???
Yea.....like an oven!
rain???
At least that is still easier to take than 90+ with high humidity- hard to breath when humans don't have gills......
I was always told that "the first rain drop that hits you is God's fault. The next rain drop that hits you is your fault". The other saying I like is "A chicken has a brain the size of a peanut and it is smart enough to get out of the rain"
rain???
The rain in Oregon is generally just rain. Rain in Oklahoma comes with thunder, lightning, and enough gusty wind to blow over the tripods. I brought my raincoat, so far it has made a useful windbreaker.
My first year in Kansas was in -8 with wind chill of -31, and 116 degree heat for the summer. It hit 100 twice in 42 years in Wa, and I can't remember below 0.
The only weather that keeps us from working is if it snowing so hard or the fog is so dense that you can't sight more than 50 feet throught the gun. Of course, there are usally other things you can do till the fog or snow lets up.
BTW, Marmot brand raincoats are the best.
