Hey kids,

I have been working on an automatic forum conversion script for the last couple of days and I think it's about ready for prime time. I'm going to try running the script tonight to see how it goes. In my tests on a development site with a full copy of this site, it took about 20 hours to convert all the forums to a more traditional forum.

I'm thinking about starting the conversion on the live site (I know, I'm crazy) tonight (Friday, November 1, 2024) and letting it run. The beauty of it is that it allows you to continue posting in the current forum while the conversion takes place. When it is done, I can run it again and it will skip what's already converted and simply add the new topics and posts since the first run. Pretty cool, eh?

My tests were on a trafficless site though, so if I experience issues running it on the live site, I may just shut the whole thing down until it is done tomorrow. Or I might delay it for a week or so. Saturdays are the slowest, so that's why I want to get it started tonight. We'll see how it goes.

My apologies for the craziness this Monday morning. I've been very busy lately with work and personal life, and couldn't see another opening for quite some time to get us moved over except this weekend. I have another day or two, so please be patient with me while I work it all out.

What craziness? I logged in the morning and have been navigating around without any issues. So far the new site seems to be working fine for me. It even seems a little quicker to load a fresh page.

My only issue was getting my fingerprint reader to work. I'm pretty sure the update had nothing to do with it..lol

Thank you for all you do!

Still some lingering issues, and I'm working on them. But feel free to point anything out that isn't working properly so I can add it to my list. 🙂

I wonder how bad the withdrawal from missing some days was for some folks. 😀

I agree with Peter, it does seem to load in faster than before.

Well, I have to admit, while the conversion script was running (for 12 freaking days 🤔), I found myself wanting to check the recent posts, but, oh yeah, script is still running...

I'm curious if any/who will return once they learn the forum is back to a "simpler" form? 🤔

Until just a few minutes ago I was unable to see forum content when logged in, but it showed up when I was logged out.  I cleared my cache and cookies, but that didn't seem to help.  So I sent a note via the Support page, and now I can see (and post to!) the forums.  I don't know if the cache clearing just took some time to take effect, or if Wendell did something in response to my support note, but I'm happy to see it working again regardless!
