Is your State based on PLSS or M&B?

Does your State have a system of Records of Survey?

If so, is it mandatory to record a survey?

Thanks!

Georgia

M&B.
We record plats in the Clerk of Superior Clerk's office in the appropriate county.
We are NOT required to record except subdivision and/or condominium plats.

As an aside, our Clerks of Court are SUPPOSED to place all recorded deeds and plats in a state wide site that can be accessed via the internet. Their is a monthly fee and a "copy" charge to print the documents.

Poll - Record of Survey: WA

PLSS----- not mandatory to file with county unless a new tract or subdivision is being surveyed. Resurveys are exempt. Section corner reports go to both state and county.

Kentucky

M & B

Not required to record anything by state laws. Only state requirement is that legal descriptions must be written by Professional Land Surveyors.

Many counties require any subdivision of land be recorded. Some counties have no recording requirements at all. (No Planning and Zoning or regulatory boards at all).

Oh, yeah, it's not required to record a survey in each state, but both do have requirements when surveys are to be filed, too many rules in each to make a simple statement about when.

Massachusetts, Surveys creating new lines for division of existing ownership, or new ways, require either a plan and endorsement by the Planning Board as either Approval not Required of Approval Required (Subdivision).

Replied to your post instead of the original post. Don't have a clue what really goes on in the Pacific Northwest. Never been closer than Logan, Utah and that was 35 years ago.

Florida

PLSS state (with the occasional Spanish land grant).

What are Records of survey? Other than subdivision plats, surveys don't get recorded.

Yeah, nice party up Logan Canyon. Who drank all the beer. I'm sure I met you but we didn't know we'd be doing all the years later. I got stuck with doing the conference as vice pres (pres was off) of the student whatever agricultural engineers. I spent most of the conference driving a shuttle van back and forth from the airport.

Man, you need to get farther west. The northwest is great. You ain't really seen a wheat field until you experience the Palouse region. And that's from someone that's seen a lot of Kansas wheat.
