It's supposed to be much worse this year, so be careful:

great...:-(
Joe
Dosen't Conn have the most Lyme Disease outbreaks in the U.S.?....more or less...:-(
Joe
only amongst the yankee's and giant's fans!
How many times have you had it Joe? I'm up to 5, so far. 3 with bulls eyes and 2 without visible marks but tested positive. You get used to the symptoms so that early discovery can lead to early 'cure.' I don't think that you actually get "cured" but it feels like it!

Not a problem here in the Mojave Desert. Now if we can just do something about the rattlesnakes and scorpions...
Only Two Teams in the Northeast!!!!!!
Red Sox and Patriots....;-)make that three.....Celtics...

Tis' the season. As a bonus they are a bit on the hungry side this time of year. Be carefull out there!
Oddly, 27 yrs of surveying in the MI woods I never once got a tick bite, or knew anybody with lymes disease. I guess those ticks don't like MI Whitetail deer. Now mosquito's & black flies.... yes. Just eat LOTS of garlic and they'll leave you alone.
I've lived in NH all my life (so far) and never had a tick on me until about 10 years ago. They appeared to have moved north. Everything in nature is about 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule this year, so I'm hoping the inevitable return of cold weather & snow will kill off some of the ticks and black flies. Unfortunately the bee-keepers and fruit growers will suffer too.
Don...
To my knowledge, I've never had it (yet).
My wife has had it, my father in law has had it, my past I-man has had it, our soil scientist has had (multiple times). But I haven't yet...to much garlic and olive oil I guess!!
Go Yankees!!
I thought I caught it once.
Turns out it was the tequilla.
Joe
Over here in the eastern part of CT, I've had it 4 times so far. First time had bells palsy at 17yo. That was fun.
Don...> Joe
you'd know if you had it Joe! like the flu but worse, within about two weeks of the bite...joints ache, headaches, stomach the works...
And it only gets worse without treatment.
Oh yeah, and garlic is my favorite seasoning, no shortage here...

Same thing happened to my son and at the same age while working for me.

Pretty much the same thoughts here. Heck we used to sit on the ground to do our calcs and eat lunch, not anymore.

Nice to know another Connecticut brother is on this board..
hope you guys are busy!
I have had it twice in 20 years, and two of my dogs got it (one with really bad neurological problems). I don't work outside anymore, but stay safe all! And get it checked out if you have symptoms, it can cause some real damage if left untreated.
I think I would rather have rattlesnakes and scorpions. 😉
I contracted this back in 1999 or 2000 in Tennessee. Pretty damn nasty. It is treatable though if taken care of soon. I pulled over 180 ticks off me. Worst I've ever seen.
Its been bad here for several years, this year looks to be off the charts.
Just dug one of the little ba$t@rds out of me yesterday. The Chief of Parties counted 14 of them on himself by evening.
Who makes the best tick remover? I see several variants, most for dogs.
Rick
We're seeing ticks here already, too, 3-4 weeks ahead of "normal".
Over the years, we've been fortunate to have low tick numbers in the lakeshore counties, but that looks like it will change.
To a tick newbie, what's the best way to keep ticks off (in addition to garlic)?
Try the product, NO STINKING TICKS
you spray it on your clothes (outside!!) and the ticks will die just by walking across the fabric. It will last thru repeated washings. GOt a can last tick season for a 500 acre survey which never materialized. Looks like I'll be using it becasue the survey just got turned back on...
