I'm not averse to calling a monument off line when conditions warrant, but...

Wow. As the detail notes: "No Scale". Even with a life sized 1:1 plat you wouldn't be able to draw this, because you couldn't actually drive a second monument in the true position with the original centered within 0.01'. Man this profession drives me crazy sometimes.

Someone needs to be beat about the head and shoulders with a copy of John Taylor's "An Introduction to Error Analysis: The Study of Uncertainty in Physical Measurements".?ÿ

?ÿ

No, just a normal boundary survey, as long as your definition of "normal" includes figuring out where to put almost 7 feet of uncertainty within a city block.

Well, it looks as if you have it down to .01' now. Always strive for perfection!?ÿ

Collecting a bunch of these and putting together a seminar would be interesting. That?ÿmight fun to listen too, especially hearing the pro arguments for showing a "corner" .01' from the monument.

to some people, property corners are never set by licensed surveyors, they only exist in some FUTURE surveyor's head, defined by some FUTURE surveyor's calculator.?ÿ

One common thing seen in Northeastern Sacramento County are the interior monuments on a block are off a little bit based on the theoretical breakdown based on the four PIs which are usually non-original things like a County Spike and Washer or an untagged rebar or pipe.

The original monuments were wooden stakes set on the R/W lines (patiently browsing the old Record of Survey books will occasionally uncover a Survey from the 30s and 40s which actually found the original now mostly gone due to road widening).?ÿ The centerline PIs were set from monuments pulled to the centerline then intersected at the street intersections.?ÿ Then monuments such as pipes were set off of those at various interior points of interest then in the 60s 70s and 80s when a lot of minor subdivisions were happening of course all the interior monuments are off a little bit but the street PIs are perfect (having nothing else to use).
