This was on a recent "map" (can't rightfully call it a plat) that was an interesting hybrid of hand drawn, CAD and 'sticky backs'. A couple weeks ago I saw another 'map' that had a scale of 1"=16'. Why would anyone release a drawing like that?
Me. "What's the difference?"
T.C. Carroll "It's the difference between right and wrong!"
I see no problem with either example.?ÿ The first suggests that the original work is in rods.?ÿ Many old county roads were laid out with a standard total width of three rods instead of 50 feet.?ÿ In the second case this might be a case of a city block being divided into lots where all dimensions are multiples of 16 feet for some reason.?ÿ All that really matters is that the drawing be drawn correctly.
Dang it, Dave.?ÿ You caught me on that one.?ÿ I could have sworn that scale was 1" = 49.5'.?ÿ Will agree that 49.6 is a bizarre scale.?ÿ Maybe it was a typo. ???? ?????ÿ
I will share one of mine that truth be told would have made a great story down the road. Plat goes through the process. I have reviewed it, the ELS had reviewed and had made the rounds for signatures. I go to the Clerk and Recorders office and lay the two copies on the counter. I proceed to pay and as she goes to get her stamp, I look at the title block..... County of (Correct County), State of (WRONG State).
In my defense,?ÿ the legal description had the correct state. As some very close friends are about the only other people who work in the county, i would have never heard the end of it.
I can explain it without seeing it.?ÿ ?ÿThe pdfs were the only thing the builder had...he ran into a city reviewer saying the scale is off (with a redline comment scale doesn't match)...so a little whiteout of scale to match said redline comment might get him the approval.?ÿ Paper don't equal reality...he's still building the building to dims shown, unless you can tell me any time you saw a builder onsite with a scale argueing that difference...please show rest of plan sheet if i'm wrong.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ

My guess would be it??s an auto-generated field in AutoCad that displays the current scale of the given viewport. Someone scrolled forward in the viewport then tried to correct it by scrolling back out. Which produces a scale that is close to the original, but not exact. Just my guess coming from years of reviewing drawings from sub-par draftsmen.?ÿ
