Haven't really been around here much the last year so I thought I would re-introduce myself. The last year was rough. Viral pneumonia about did me in last spring. Couple chest operations and ten days in the hospital probably saved my life. Shortly after returning to work after a few week of convalescing, where I headed up the survey department at telecom company, after 17 years building everything up from scratch, I was shown the door, which from the moment it happened, I viewed as a complete and total blessing in disguise. So here I am, not quite ready to ride off into the sunset, I've taken a new job in Public Works. Now I get to learn Civil 3D, get my commercial drone operators license and learn a host of new things and I'm excited! Little daunting, but I've always thrived on challenges and I'm not one to bet against. I'll probably come here looking for a little help when I get bogged down. My philosophy has always been to surround myself with people smarter than myself and hope that some of it rubs off, along with what doesn't kill you, will either leave you stronger, or a quadriplegic. Once I have it all figured out, I guess that will be my que to head off into the sunset.
Cheers! Willy
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Welcome Willy.
I've taken a new job in Public Works.
After 30 years in the private sector I took a public works job 4 years ago. Working within a limited area I find lots of opportunities to reuse and repurpose data. Everything you do becomes part of one big survey. To that end, setting up a control network is very valuable.
When one door closes, another one opens. Gotta love your positive attitude. We need more of that in this world. I'm so glad you decided to stick around despite all the problems. 😁👍
@wendell Thank you. In my 59 trips around the sun I’ve had to overcome many an obstacle and set backs. It’s in overcoming those obstacles and challenging myself, that I’ve found my happy place. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that obstacles are only opportunities in disguise and the only true failure is to give up. You have my gratitude for all your work on this forum to keep it moving forward.

Williwaw, good to hear you are still around. I just thought you were burried in work, but in reality you were almost burried. Not many people get bonus days, enjoy them. Den
Good to see you posting williwaw, glad to hear you are happy about the change in environs.
Years ago I remember coming across a job posting which I could tell from the wording came from you and I thought it would be a great opportunity but for the relocation.
Hopefully we can all get the forum cracking a little now that things look like they may be coming back online.
Welcome back! Congratulations on your successful walk through that lonesome valley. I hope the C3D learning curve is manageable so far.

Thanks. C3D is just going to take some time. Something I was reminded is the most precious commodity in the world and I am truly grateful to have.

I can relate to your challenges and setbacks Willy. Nobody decides when you need to give up. You do... Glad you were able to find another opportunity that values your effort. If you need any help on Civil 3D. Let me know.

Thank you. I truly appreciate that. I purchased a manual on C3D and it arrived last Friday and I spent some time going through it tabbing subjects to read up on. I have twenty plus years of CAD experience, but C3D is quite the sophisticated beast and understanding the organizational hierarchy and tapping it's full potential has me juiced. I'd reached something of a dead end in my previous job, so it's very refreshing to be out and into something new, get my juices flowing again! I personally find getting out of my comfort zone to be where I'm going to find the growth I'm after. I think looking forward is much healthier than looking backward. There's nothing there that can be changed.
