I opened a solo business in January of 2021. I have been invoicing by email only and so far it has not been an issue. I am wondering if other solo artist invoice by email only.?ÿ
That is what I do. So far it has worked very well, no issues.
Same here- though not solo anymore.?ÿ
email straight from qb, and ever since we added the cc payment option link to those emails AR has gotten noticeably faster.
Email and mail. Almost exclusively email but not always. Both work well.
Yes,?ÿ solo again, since January too.?ÿ ?ÿCongrats!?ÿ ?ÿ I invoice right from QB and most all my clients pay by credit card.?ÿ ?ÿI require them to provide the card info to get on my field schedule.?ÿ (unless they are regular clients)?ÿ ?ÿThat helps weed out any price shoppers.?ÿ ?ÿBut lately, it seems like people don't even ask the fee.?ÿ Just do IT!

Yes
We always send a paper invoice.?ÿ But, we frequently also provide an email invoice to speed things along.?ÿ Not everyone works in a digital world so prefer to have something they can hold in their hand.?ÿ Not everyone has access to a printer to convert the email to a hard copy.
I can not remember the last time I sent out a paper invoice.?ÿ Most of my larger engineering clients even have an accounts payable email account for them.
Strictly email a pdf of the invoice, and most of my clients have given me the name and email address of their accounts payable person. Much faster all the way around. My wife gets a hard copy because she loves file folders.
@bruce-small that??s what she said.
Yep, pdf Survey and Invoice by email, with a request to reply for credit card payment; then I'll email them a PayPal Invoice. I have not used a credit card service in a while. I don't want any perception that I have access to their credit card number. Payments are half by closing; third are check by mail or FedEx and rest by PayPal. I still only receive payment by app once or twice a month, it has not caught on like I thought it would.?ÿ?ÿ
Some of my clients don't reliably process emailed invoices, so those get a postal mail copy.?ÿ I've also found that sending the invoice to the PM alone isn't a good way to get prompt payment.?ÿ "Attn:. Accounts Payable" on the envelope seems to work well.

All email here too.?ÿ
One small detail though...I have a client that I invoice monthly.?ÿ With them everything is electronic (even the payment) BUT..their bookkeeping department requires me to mail them a physical copy of the invoice marked PAID and signed.
Seems a little odd.?ÿ I've told them there is enough digital evidence floating around in the cloud that there should never be a problem.?ÿ I guess it all falls on deaf ears.?ÿ At least I've got something with which to get rid of my Christmas stamps.
@andy-j?ÿ and @flyin-solo
Do you fellas charge them the 3% +/- processing fee, or are you happy to eat it to maintain cash flow and convenience?
I guess it all falls on bureaucratic?ÿ ears
There, I fixed it for you...
look- it's 2% for us, but i'll eat it.?ÿ that 98% of clients insist on fixed fee proposals means i'm making that 2% almost every time anyways.
@flyin-solo?ÿ ?ÿSame here.... I will not nickel and dime clients.?ÿ ?ÿI get it up front in the fee that they agree to....
?ÿ
and when you factor in the time and expense to actually mail out invoices and then wait for a check to show up, get to the bank and wait for them to actually let you have access to it....?ÿ well, time is money!?ÿ?ÿ
?ÿ
@oldpacer?ÿ ?ÿ Im surprised at the precentages.?ÿ ?ÿ I haven't had any client refuse to give their card number and if they get points or whatever, more power to them.?ÿ ?ÿ I shred the note with their card info after it's been run.?ÿ ?ÿ
I generally distrust pay pal as they have been at the center of a few attemted scams on me in the past.?ÿ Well, someone purporting to be paypal, to be fair.

solo here. I email a pdf of the invoice which I have the client print & sign as "acknowledged & paid in full" then they enclose a hard copy of the signed invoice with the check made payable to the business. It will be picked up by either me or the wife - some have mailed to us but I prefer to pickup payment as I have had people give me the whole "it's in the mail!" run-around before. We do use Quickbooks online but only for bookkeeping purposes. I probably need to get a better routine but this works & my wife is used to doing everything this way
@andy-j?ÿ No, No, they WANT to give me their CC #.?ÿ It's me that does not want anything to do with it. I hate, (AND YES THAT IS A STRONG WORD FOR STRONG TIMES) when they get hacked and call me about it.
