Spotted on a job walk south of Hemet CA, north of Temecula wine country. It's about 5 feet wide and I'm baffled.
Just a guess.?ÿ Some sort of insect trap as part of a migration study.
We had some weirdly shaped boxes hanging from high tree limbs for a year or two around here as entomologists were tracking a specific bug to determine the potential spread of whatever blight it caused.?ÿ
Looks like a radar reflector to me. No idea why it would be there.

@ashton That??s exactly what it looks like, just larger than typically used on ships. Maybe related to satellite born radar mapping? Sort of the radar version of a photogrammetry ground target? Just a guess.

It is kind a a gas station for ufo's.

Looks like the control point reflectors used in early laser scanners (interferometry). Maybe farmers using their iphone to lidar their property. Their position could be used to stitch the scans together. Or that's where the aerial drug drop is supposed to be.?ÿ

Klingons?
It's a conversation piece, and it's working. You're talking about it already.
I have set those up in the past. They are ground control for airborne radar mapping. Similar to lidar but it will penetrate clouds and not as accurate. Good for areas with near constant cloud cover. The project I worked on was from a fixed wing aircraft, it could probably be for satellite borne sensors as well.?ÿ
@john-hamilton thank you, I suspected it was some sort of aerial target. Radar mapping... I was not familiar with this. You have given me something to read up on.
A 3D photogrametry ground control target?
ashtray..
that is a quadrilateral triangle.
@ashton Could be.?ÿ UC San Diego set them up years ago in that area to help initialize, calibrate and monitor seismic activity.
