Transferring LSIT to Another State

I took the LSIT in California. Took the National in CA, Moved to NE years later. Sat for the state specific in NE. Nobody ever asked where I took the LSIT. I thought it was a National thing? I never understood the term "transferring the LSIT from another jurisdiction", it's not like it allows the licensee to do anything.?ÿ

I moved states after I got my LSIT, twice technically. Like @husker796 said, no one ever cared where I got it.

Public agencies might have requirements for certain positions that include LSIT designation in that state, but of the seven firms I have worked for, not one of them even brought it up, and I've never heard of someone being denied a position solely because their LSIT was gained out of state.

Come to think of it, I never even checked to see if there was "reciprocity" for the LSIT...

Wyoming accepts any previous state LSIT distinction but that mileage varies on each board for each state. Take it for what it's worth, and I'm following the same idea because I'm likely to move once or twice after I take the FS too.

Some states don't even have LSIT's. All that usually matters is that you have passed the FS. If you plan to become licenced in your new state you will have to meet all their LSIT requirements and their LS requirements regardless.?ÿ

I don't think they ask if you are an LSIT on most LS applications.?ÿ I think they simply ask if you've passed the FS, and when

@jitterboogie I looked at the RPLS application here and Texas and they just ask from where, when, and to send verification from the state board that granted the LSIT.

Seeing as the FS exam is a national exam that is not state specific I don't think it matters where you resided when you passed it. Already said it on reddit but congrats again on passing the FS.

I moved from TX with LSIT certificate to CA in 2009.?ÿ I just had to pay the registration fee in CA to get a certificate.?ÿ There was some exchange of paperwork between boards and a couple hundred dollars IIRC

It doesn't matter in California whether you obtained your LSIT or Surveyor Intern certificate in another state so long as you passed the same FS exam.?ÿ If you want a California LSIT certificate, you can pay the fee and request it, but that's optional.?ÿ Since the vast majority of the licensing boards verify that information directly between the boards, you can just specify on your PLS application where you got it and that you requested a verification from the Board that issued it.

In some states you must request LSIT status, in some states it is just assumed having passed the FS that you are an LSIT and some states just care that you passed the FS. Reciprocity is much more complicated for the PLS since states have very varying education requirements.

When you decide where you are going, be sure to study their application process.?ÿ Education history or the lack thereof could be a sticking point.

@ric-moore Hypothetical....what if I spent my career working in TX and all my experience is there but recently moved to CA and want to pursue my PLS. Can a TX Land Survey be used as my references for my PLS application?

Don't know about CA, but in other states out of state experience can certainly be used as LS experience

You need to evaluate and plan accordingly.?ÿ

If you don't care where you're relocating to, I'd look for a state whose LS requirements fit your existing experience and education.?ÿ

If you're looking at a specific state for your desired quality of life, then I'd look into and do what's needed to meet their specific requirements.?ÿ?ÿ
