I downloaded and installed TBC 3.0 64bit. I can't change the background from
black to white. I clicked on "file" then "options" then "white" and OK but
nothing changes. I have points because I can tell it to select all and it
shows the points and lines in the various spreadsheets but the plan view is
completely black with nothing showing. Not even the cursor while it is in
the plan view area. I have tried starting new projects and opening old
projects but the screen stays black as a coal miner's fanny! Any ideas?
My software maintenance agreement expired at v2.80, so I can't help. Is v3.0 64-bit worth the upgrade, and do you know what a maintenance agreement renewal costs?
I was running 2.81 prior to 3.0. I think the biggest thing 3.0 does is allow for better handling of large data sets. I don't know the costs because the company bought it. My guess is that 3.0 is only worthwhile if you deal with large datasets. There might be some photogrammetry stuff also.
Hi John,
Uninstall and Install back again using different installer of TBC might help you.

My Mother's Grandparents were immigrants to the U.S. from Denmark (19th Century).
I think their surname was Raff.
Jim,
Last time I checked (about a year ago) if you're current with maintenance it's $599, if you're not, it's $899. As a stockholder I love it, as a user, not so much :-(.

Ouch. Guess I'll wait until I have a real need before reupping.
Thanks!
Well there's no joy in Beantown.
I uninstalled my first download of TBC 3 then re-downloaded from Trimble. I'm still getting the black screen in plan view.
The first time I tried installing TBC 3 it gave me a message that there were 3 or 4 files it needed to load for the Hasp key. I told it to go ahead and it had a problem with the first file. I tried again and things seemed to go fine as it loaded the hasp files then TBC 3 but I got the black screen when I ran TBC 3. With the subsequent uninstalls and reinstall it has never asked again about the hasp files. I starting to think maybe there is a problem with the hasp key software.
I'll have to get one of the other guys at the office to download TBC 3 then plug the hasp key into his computer and see if he gets the black screen.
As a last resort, I could try asking Trimble Support but my guess is that I'll get better help from this Board. Hey Doug, as a share holder, maybe you could tell them to improve their support dept?
> I starting to think maybe there is a problem with the hasp key software.
I went through hours of fun getting the HASP key to work properly on my system. I had dozens of phone calls and emails with customer support (and even a few, as I recall, with one of the TBC programmers) before it finally started working reliably. It was a pretty unpleasant experience overall.
Learning of your difficulties, I've found another reason not to upgrade (yet).
John,
Well I could try John but I go to Michael McInnis when I need support. Frankly I've thought about dumping my shares based on how Trimble treats surveyors but they keep making money for me and I'm weak when it comes to unearned income 😉
Doug
I have Michael looking into this problem but so far he is stumped too.
John,
Please keep us informed on getting this fixed. I never load x.0 of any software. I always wait for x.01 or later. Good luck.
Doug
I had a similar problem with a different program, just a long shot:
But try right clicking on the desktop icon,
go to COMPATIBILITY tab,
check on DISABLE DESKTOP COMPOSITION.
Thanks for the idea RFB.
I tried your suggestion but the choices were greyed out and not available.
John,
You must be on to something.... I am in the process as I write this
of downloading ver. 3.01
Since I have a 64 bit system it is an easy choice to go with it.
I can't say it's confidence building to know your having problems already!!
Please let me know if it works for you and I'll uninstall ver 3.0 and try 3.01.
Update TBC 3.0 64 bit
Well I now have 3.01 but am experiencing the same problem. The plan view window is a black hole. The cursor doesn't even show up.
Perhaps the problem is something specific to my system?
Update TBC 3.0 64 bit
On a Seiler survey and construction blog from a year+ ago, someone mentioned that a TBC update caused black screens for several users. They posted some settings that you can change, and mentioned that a video driver update may be in order.
Black screen in Trimble Business Center after installation
That fixed it BUT.....
Thank you thank you that fixed the black screen but......
Now the mouse action in the plan view is jumpy. It is just about impossible to "pick" a point or line because I can't get it on the object to be selected. I have to physically move the mouse maybe a 1/32" before any movement happens on the screen then it jumps ahead until the mouse is moved another 1/32" then it jumps ahead again. I does the same thing with my touch pad.
That fixed it BUT.....
If we were talking about autocad, I would say that is a snap to grid setting.
