We gripe about double proportioning a missing section corner.  We gripe about single proportioning a missing quarter corner.  When the real world points to a more likely and correct solution.

Then why do we not complain about the foolishness involving proportioning of too long or too short distances between points in distant blocks of an ancient plat?

Everyone says we should award the King what the King is due.  That's BS and I include the missing letters in my thinking.

The chain was too long or the chain was too short.  It was that situation every time it was stretched, including across streets and alleys.  It didn't know or care what it was being used to measure.

Custom is the only reason for declaring streets to be of some round with such as 60 or 80 feet.  80.3 or 59.7 is equally useful.

I agree. Lots are created to be sold with a warranty deed, whereas streets are a dedication to the public without a guarantee—it is what it is.
