We're doing a couple of boundary and topo surveys here in Austin. I've requested the field crew to revisit the site to search for some additional corners. When I tell the PM this, he says, "is the (RPLS) requesting all these corners?". I say, "No...I am. We can't say it's not there if we haven't looked." That shut him up pretty quick.
I'm not registered but I'm trying to do the best I can.

It's a very elegant pincushion though when you consider the amount of time it took to carve out the side of the first cap so cleanly to allow the 2nd bar to fit flush against the first.?ÿ More of a carpenter's skill though...

Ive seen those where the plat called for them. I'm not sure which is worse...
Sometimes you don't have a choice when it comes to setting corners when it comes to plats.?ÿ The statutes in the states where I'm licensed state that you need to set monuments at all angle points and corners.?ÿ I have had several cases over the years where setting two pins within a couple of feet was unavoidable.?ÿ The prime example being where lot lines intersect a R/W near a PC or PT.?ÿ At least in recording states you can see why multiple points were set.
A few feet along the r-o-w is one thing, my issue is rear lot lines where the pins are offset a few tenths or a foot. Ive even seen a few offset 2 or 3 hundredths.
It doesn't take much to adjust a few things and make the corners councident. It's also fairly easy to make lines tangent or radial, but it's rare to see folks make the effort any more...
The picture with the cap cut out cracks me up. Ran into the same situation (had a picture of it that I can't find anymore) back when I first got into surveying. In my case it was two different surveyors. The idea that you are going to call another surveyors corner out of position by that tiny amount blew my mind back then. Still does.
In cases where I or we when working as a team found pin cushions, we took photos, shot the other pins for reference, and left a lath as just a marker for us to follow up with next visit. Assuming your pin will be even better, without researching the field observations against whats in the filed surveys and plats can cost a lot more than ego.?ÿ O&E insurance gets tired of paying for those types of mistakes quickly.?ÿ

That is a pet peeve of mine, you need to think about what's best for the owner of the lot. Even here where it's required to stencil the lot #'s on the cap it will lead to confusion when you have two caps a foot or two apart, usually it's only a matter of better design when drafting the plat. And a PC or PT near a lot corner can cause all kinds of confusion, having a new shiny fence lined up to one three feet from the actual corner,,,,,,seen that one.
I try to bury those PC, PT corners, or not set them even though it's a requirement.
