Anyone have suggestions on robotic total stations that work well with Carlson data collectors? We're looking to move on from Trimble 5600 and everything else we run is carlson based.

Thanks Lee. Any thoughts on topcon robotics?

Carlson CR2 works good for us. I think Leica is better, but cost accordingly.

Contact Jim Carlson he can help you out [email protected]

Leica MS50 with viva controller works pretty well but still has a few quirks and has to reconnect through smartworx every once in a while(could be something on our end we need to change) But its a quick robot and tracks very well in my experience. Wouldn't recommend for the Leica TS12 even though we use one, can't recall what the issue was but having to walk over to the instrument a few times a day seemed to fix it but still a pain.

I just got a great deal from Allen Precision on a GeoMax 2" robot with Carlson data collector package. Real happy with the instrument and Allen Precision.

I don't know that much about them; I'm a Trimble guy but Leica / Geomax would be my second choice, and my first choice if I was committed to using Carlson data collection. They make great hardware.

I use a Leica robotic. Works great together.

I've run Leica robots since 2008. I recently had a Topcon demonstration of their best robot (can't remember the model) and it was slower to find the prism and had no power search feature. Tracking seemed comparable. If you have ruled out Trimble then I suggest you look at a Leica TS-12 R1000. Runs great with Carlson. I use a Carlson Surveyor 2, SurvCE 5.0 with the long range Bluetooth.

Are you looking to buy a brand new robot or are you looking at the used market?

I think topcon has had a power search for a long time you have to have the RC unit though.

+1. We use Carlson with our TS15 robotic TS and the CS15 controller, and they do work very well together.

The only superior evidence is that which you haven't yet found.

Either would be fine, I don't use it everyday but need the availability if I have to run solo

Used to run Trimble where I worked before. But after going out on my own, I went with the Carlson CR+ Total Station, BRx6 GNSS GPS, Surveyor 2 data collector with SurvCE and Carlson Survey cad software. I've been very happy with it. There is still much to learn for efficiency sake. Plus Carlson has outstanding customer service along with Rod and Isaac at Pacific Survey, where I purchased it from.

I have a Topcon PS which we run with Survey Pro. 2 years old now, it was only 6 months old when I took it over. The data is OK. Just OK. But it is slower than molasses in January and doesn't track well at all.

Just curious as Iƒ??ve got a Leica TCRP 1203 w/ 1000 m reflectorless that Iƒ??m thinking of selling. I bought it new but it has only seen very limited use in my side business. Iƒ??ve been moving away from surveying to focus more on my engineering job and logging hobby.

I use a Topcon robot at work and it seems to work alright. There is some sort of "dog whistle" gadget that helps the robot find the prism and we don't have that so maybe with all those toys it becomes the greatest thing next to sliced bread.

I use a Leica TS12 with SurvCE. I love the combination. I used a Leica 1200 with SurvCE for several years, then worked at 2 companies who used Trimble. I always missed the Leica-Carlson combo which is why I switched back when I went out on my own.

Trimble S6 is the best robot.
