This was our "view from the office" today. An abandoned granite quarry. It is 200'+ across and 2,000' long.
Me. "What's the difference?"
T.C. Carroll "It's the difference between right and wrong!"
How deep?
That looks like a cold place to swim.
Did you see any trout swimming around?
Reminds me a little bit of scenes from the move "Breaking Away".

Awesome views that are uncommon here

When I was young and dumb I used to swim in one. Then I saw what was there when it was drained. Its a deathtrap. No trout in these parts but plenty of Bream.

"Breaking Away" was partially filmed in our county.

Nice scenery,
thanks for sharing!

No trout?! I wonder why?

I'm not positive (it's been a WHILE), but I believe the trace radioactivity is found in granite quarries. Where Stacy lives they mine some beautiful marble.

Snap, at a Quarry same day. 50 year old site looking at expansion for another 50 years of rock extraction primarily for river protection works. By product was originally considered waste and stockpiled, is now reprocessed for roading aggregates and building and site hardfill.
First experience receiving LiDAR Data from local council and modelling. Looking at haul road design options and layout of new benches.

Sorry Andy, we are the "Granite Capital" of the world. No marble mines here. Granite quarries all the way. And I've never heard of radioactivity here.

The trout live farther North in the mountains. The water is too warm here.

That is odd, with as clear as that water was, I would assume it was fairly cold.
Around here, the warm water gets mossy and has lots of plant life living in it.
There must be bass in there at least?

What was in the bottom and what is Bream?
Yikes
Touché.
Bream (maybe i spelled it wrong) is pronounced Brim... a type of fish, like perch.
Those old quarries have jackhammer steel sticking out from the sides, cables crossing, and all sorts of items to be impaled by. When they are submerged you can't see them...
Me. "What's the difference?"
T.C. Carroll "It's the difference between right and wrong!"
Plenty of bass, catfish and bream. One of our favorite swimming quarries had some type of gold fish a foot long in it.

Crap!, I didn't think of that. Makes me queasy thinking about it. Hopefully the areas are fenced and signed.
