I certainly feel for people down there. When I lived down there I'd sometimes get asthma like symptoms just breathing inland air, and there weren't any wildfires burning.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
I'm wearing an N95 mask in the photo.?ÿ Even though I have a beard, I keep it short and the seal seems to be pretty good.?ÿ The mask is a pain in the butt to wear all day, but not so much that I'd rather trash my lungs.

That 426 figure I quoted was from the PurpleAir site, which defaults to the raw reading from its low-cost sensors.?ÿ I've since learned that the PurpleAir sensors tend to read twice as high as the EPA sensors.?ÿ You can select LRAPA from the conversion drop-down to display numbers more closely aligned with the EPA reporting.?ÿ The current unconverted reading of 428 converts to 245 when LRAPA conversion is specified.?ÿ Still bad air, in either case.

I bought a 20-pack of the cheap ones during the crisis and found them usable but not very comfortable.?ÿ I just ordered a 10-pack of the 8511 style, which has the exhalation valve.?ÿ No need for them right now, but I figure we'll be dealing with heavy smoke again at some point.

I'm one of those people who's always cold.?ÿ When everyone else is wearing shorts and T-shirts, I'm wearing Levis and a down jacket.?ÿ I don't even think about shorts until the temp goes above 80?ø.
The blue fleece is only a vest, but I was probably thinking about adding a jacket when that photo was taken.?ÿ Temp was a little under 60?ø, as I recall, but I was moving around, so was managing with only the vest.
That was a cold week, there were days I never took my jacket off, unusual for me. Weird how you'd think the smoke is fog except for the smell.
