Ladies and Gents,

In the past I had someone recommend the Brother 6490 and what a great machine that was.?ÿ I had later purchased the 6710 and what a piece of garbage that was.?ÿ So I am here asking for recommendations again, since the 6490 is long out of production.?ÿ I will occasionally need to print 11x17, but mostly just will be used for my wife doing bookkeeping, etc.?ÿ Mostly will be 8.5x11 prints.

Thanks!

Perhaps your 6710 was a lemmon.

The one I have has been just as usefull as the 6490.

Lost my 6490 in a lighting attack a few years ago and at the time it was not in production.

I replaced it with 6710 and has been practically flawless.?ÿ

Saw a cycle beginning and got one of the last 6710s and put in closet for whenever it may be needed.

Having extra paper trays has been rather nice.

The 6535 is the replacement model at $265?ñ

Repost of my comments from last year about a Brother printer that is still going for me.

I bought a cheap Brother laser printer a few years ago and it has worked well.

They certainly do waste a lot of toner by shutting off too soon. There are two tricks needed to be able to use up the toner cartridges in that machine. First, you find the optical sensor and put a piece of black tape over it to keep it from nagging you halfway through the cartridge. Then when it refuses to print any more from that cartridge, based on number of pages, you take two screws out of the cartridge, rotate the plastic gear back to its initial position, reassemble, and print another ream or so before the quality degrades.

Just acquired a new hp Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fnw, only does letter size.

The printer is very good.

The software it came with is junk, can't find the printer over the network or even connected directly.

I connected it to my router and was able to add it to my wife's computer and it will print from my iOS devices too.

Scanning would be to a USB flash drive unless I can get the hp junk software to work.

A friend told me hp offshored all their printer software several years ago and it has been junk ever since.

I have a Brother MFC-7860DW.The Brother laser printers can be refilled, although it is somewhat messy. I buy from InkOwl.

I also have a MFC-J6920DW inkjet printer, 11x17. The cartridges can be refilled also. It is not advertised as a photo printer and it is mediocre with photos. Only dye based ink so they will eventually face in light.

I bought a Brother MFC-J6710DW at about the same time as A Harris.

My previous Brother MFC6490CW also got toasted and I sent it back for warranty repair.
I needed one Right Now and exact replacement was no longer in production so I bought the MFC-J6710DW.
It is a true workhorse. I scan a lot, and just print a little.
I buy ink cartridges in bulk, boxes of 12 or 18 assorted, so cheap (about $10 on eBay) I don't mess with it and just pop in a new one when it complains.

PS: the warranty covered the burnt 6490, I was amazed. I sold it to a neighbor that still uses it.

They also provide excellent support for Linux.

I bought color laser Ricoh SPc250dn for $78 refurbished from online store . Black toner refill kit with chip on ebay cost?ÿ $12.00. It's letter/legal size only.?ÿ

For 11x17 I use Canon Pro 9000 II?ÿ that was on sale at staples for $90.00 few years ago.?ÿ?ÿ

?ÿ

Both take too much of "real estate" in my basement office.

?ÿI've got an HP Office jet 7612. It's a printer, fax, scanner, and copy machine. Can't tell any difference in the print quality vrs. my laser printer. About the only printer I could find that will print 11 x 17.

Got it at OfficeMax for $144. It's inkjet. The cartridges are a little small so you're changing them quite frequently. All 5 of my computer's using XP, 7, and 10 interfaced with it seamlessly.
