Has anyone found a flagging dispenser that actually works? I've tried the wire kind that has teeth to cut the flagging, I've tried the bag kind that has grommets but none of them seem to work to my satisfaction. I would either end up with a long trail of flagging behind me or a bird's nest in the bag. During recon or marking lines on a tract I like to travel light, a handful of plats, a blade and some flagging. I found that a piece of Paracord and a carabiner, when configured appropriately, works better than anything else I've tried. What does everybody else use? Or do you just put it in your pocket?

I use a side vest pocket that has a velcro flap closed with a tail of flagging hanging out so I can easily pull out what I need.
Briars always seem to be greedy with flagging and snag it at every opportunity when a tail is present.

Ya briars are a bitch but lucky for me there are none in my area. I do run into cactus but then I just go around it unless I need to set a property corner in it. Beavertail and cholla cactus chop easily with a long handle shovel. 😉
Old guy I used to work with wore a 2” leather tool belt all the time doing construction staking. There was a 2nd belt about 6” long attached on one side with a small buckle on it. He would put 2-3 rolls on that, tight enough to keep them from unrolling on their own. He smoked, so when he was finished flagging up stakes he would touch his cigarette to the end of the roll and “spot weld” it down, or use his lighter to melt the end.
I just keep it in a vest pocket and take the whole roll out and rip pieces off when needed. I had a coworker keep the roll in his vest pocket and run the flagging out the grommet in the bottom of the pocket which is probably the right way to do it but I change stuff out of my pockets sometimes so I've never tried it that way.
I have a pouch, in it I put orange duck tape with a little expandable string to make it easy to pull out of the pouch. It works well, I don't carry flagging for much of anything. But when I do it works the same for flagging. I've kept the string for years and transfer it each roll change.
The way I tie the Paracord keeps the flagging from unrolling. If I pull down it locks and I can break the flagging. To pull some off, just pull up. Best thing I found so far.

Short answer: No. Constant flagging management comes with the job.
