We have funding to work for the next 3 days. I was looking for a BM on the NGS Web Site and they have shut it down. This is the info that was posted on their web site.

"Due to the Federal government shutdown,
NOAA.gov and most associated web sites
are unavailable.

Only web sites necessary to protect lives
and property will be maintained.

See Weather.gov for critical weather
information or contact USA.gov for more
information about the shutdown."

:-O :'( 🙁 :excruciating: :woot:

My contact at the Corps told me that he is not allowed to speak to me about anything to do with government business during the shutdown.

The whole thing is ridiculous.

Recieved a "Unilateral Stop-Work Order" at 7:30 this morning do to "laps of appropriations". Just glad I dont have any time invested in the project yet.

I'm willing to bet if we were to shut down our CORS station, we'd get an email before the end of the day wanting to know why they weren't receiving any data...

I may venture into P&R ....

I hope no one needs to process any GPS data in the next few days. OPUS is closed too.:poop:

Back to Surveying

No worries: I've got my own base station. Almost never need CORS or OPUS for anything more than a check.

I was told by a government employee that not only was he not being paid to work, it is actually against the law for him to do anything connected with his job while the shut down is happening.

With the NGS site shut down, it sounds like the availability of CORS data will be affected. Feel like I may have dogged a bullet. Had to pack up my base and resort to fast static on a remote survey over the weekend because of the tides were going to leave me stranded for the night if I had to return to retrieve my base after completing the work. I was able to reverse differentially correct using CORS data instead of my base's data and it worked out slick. Had it been today I'm not so sure it would have worked out.

How much did it cost to post that fancy message?

It would not carry the same political weight, but one of those Error 404 Screens would be more appropriate.

We made it through the last stoppage, I think we'll all get through this one ok.

I don't know if they're still available but back in the day we had disk from NGS that gave the benches in the counties we worked in. Don't do that kind of work much anymore so I don't have the need for that sort of thing much but I can see where that short of back up data would come in handy.

I sure hope they're not going to give him back pay for not doing his job, but I have a feeling they will. The shut downs never seem to do anything but give a bunch of people a paid vaction.

Be careful fellows

There appear to be several posts missing from this thread including one of mine.

I really didn't intend to say anything overtly political. Mainly pointing out that I have an extra worker today.

Be careful fellows

Mine was also removed, I put effort in trying to not make it political, what I stated, I claimed as my opinion and made no effort to change anyone's mind or offer up any insults.
