We at the State Office of Preservation of Everything have received a note from an informant that you have been "collecting" cultural items that in the distant future will provide archeologists with the key to understanding the ancient civilization that we may yet become (depending upon certain unknown factors such as asteroid trajectories, of course). Although such items may seem inconsequential now, we are willing to stake our professional reputations upon the principle that a thousand years from now they will be prized museum exhibits, somewhere. However, by "collecting" these items that in a thousand years will be highly valuable, you deprive the members of the staff of this office a thousand years from now of any prospect of actually studying them, let along publishing scholarly works upon them.

Be aware that when you pick something up and put it back, traces of your DNA will most likely remain upon the object. In the future, it will almost certainly be possible to regenerate you from those DNA traces so that you may stand trial under the Future Antiquities Act. We cannot, of course tell you what to do at the moment, but judge for yourself whether the reward is worth the risk.

Strangest thing to find for me is old tires. You can be further back in the woods than you can hear a coon dog holler and walk up on an old-ass tire. Did they dispose of those things by plane back in the day?

A good friend of mine found an old pocket watch embedded in a tree once. He went home, got his chainsaw and went back and cut an 8" cross section of the tree and took it home. I guess someone laid it in the notch where a limb was growing and forgot about it. It grew in permanently. I have been meaning to start a post like this and show pictures but have not. That's better than anything I have ever found.

I once found a loaded 22 automatic and a pair of sunglasses next to it.

Gun and Glasses went home with me. The Body however, did not. The local authorities took care of that.

Found this old wood stove probably 25 years ago and had meant to fix it up with new steel on the sides. It has an interesting bi-metalic spring on the draft, which is designed to open or close depending on how hot the stove gets. It has a hot plate on top for cooking, and neat footrests for warming up toes. The top of the draft is cast with the name "Columbus Iron Works Co. GA" Wood Saver.

No pics of any of my finds, but...

Once dug up an old revolver buried approx 2' deep in the intersection of 2 graded roads in rural South GA...

LOTS of arrowheads and bottles and signs...

Golfballs.... like someone stated above about tires.... seems like I can be in the middle of no where, and I will find a golf ball.... go figure.... (If I have time and truck is nearby, I'll take my 5-iron and "relocate" them, LOL)....

Other Survey equipment.... I've found a matchete in the woods in the middle of no where, a schonstedt on a const site, a measuring wheel on a different const site (tried, but never located an owner for either), cones, range rods, and just early last week, I found a prism rod & bi pod (I found the owner, crew had left it behind on a B.S.)

Found an old VW bug in the bottom of a 25-30' deep sinkhole, had a small tree growing through a window...

No bodies... but, I once submitted a proposal on a project... I lost the proposal, and the firm that won the project did find a body on-site....
