What is it? A wallet?....
If you find a fawn like this you should leave it alone. If momma smells human when she gets back she may abandon her fawn.
In the first pic I thought it was a spotted grouper....:'(
WOW, Big Help is growing up fast!
Have a great week! B-)
I have heard others say the same thing, "the mother may abandon the fawn". Several farmers in my area move them all the time. When one mows hay, the does jump up from the uncut grass and run for wooded cover. The fawns stay bedded and wait for momma to return. If the farmers don't look for fawns when a grown doe runs, they may mow over them. Some farmers have their children, about the age of Big Help, scout in front of the tractor. Found fawns are picked up and carried to near by wooded areas. We seem to have no shortage of deer, and I haven't heard of anyone finding dead fawns (other than hit by a car or coyotes feasting). I'm not suggesting abandonment never happens, I just believe it is rare.
WOW! Look at all that Poison Ivy! Yikes
I don't know about Arkansas, but those poison ivy leaves are just babies! We've got poison ivy leaves big as pie tins around Oklahoma. I've seen the "vines" two inches across or bigger..big enough to make a good walking stick.
???? Wallet???
That is not true in my experience. I have caught them before, and the momma followed me, and wanted their baby back. I gave it back. She was very happy.

Poison Ivy and oak do not bother us.

I don't usually get itchy from green, fresh leaves.
You Should Not Pet Them
Fawns have no scent, That is what allows momma to leave them while she gets a decent meal. By not moving they have a better chance.
By petting the fawn you put your scent on them and that may aid a predator in tracking them down.
I had to stop in midstride years ago to not bring my boot down on a fawn. I backed away and signaled the other surveyor to steer clear. We worked in the area for 2 hours, momma never showed up and baby never moved.
Give the little ones more respect and the deer spirits will treat you kindly.

I only touch farm animals; if you know what I mean.:-O
If we touch the fawns, my dog kills them.
My #1 rule is not to molest the wildlife.
You Should Not Pet Them
I don't think there is much of a chance that a coyote would track down a human scent but I'm pretty sure Big Help will remember that day of surveying with his dad for the rest of his life.

Didn't someone post a video entitled "sheep screams like a human" a few days ago?
I had to carry one that size out of the road last year. The mother ran off and the fawn was just staring at me. Picked it up and brought it into the woods so it would not get hit.
I would have got away with it but ...

I would have got away with it but the pig squealed on me.
