OK, so I asked ChatGPT if Trimble Access does Helmert transformations. It gave a detailed reply that included many transformations that Access does and a suggestion that I visit Trimble for even more details.
Just a bit later, huge splashy banner ads for Trimble equipment permeated every site I visited, including the New York Times, which seems a bit far from and effective ad platform for Trimble.
Bottom line: ChatGPT is sophisticated clickbait that offers advertisers very targeted audiences, far more precise than a simple search engine. Yes, it can be helpful, but there's a stiff price to pay in your browser.
Apologies to all the naysayers; you are right. But the danger is not that ChatGPT will take over the world, it's that ChatGPT will annoy the hell out of you with its derivative ads.
Alas, empirical research roads are always full of potholes.

I've been married to a "ChatGPT" for 54 years.
I use the relatively newly released (last few weeks) app on my iPhone.
Have not had that sort of trouble with targeted ads yet.
I get targeted adds, regardless of the search engine. Just more proof that our lives are more transparent than we care to admit. I have been told using a VPN is the solution, but I'm not well versed on the subject.

I was thinking of my reply to the initial post when I scrolled down and saw yours (busted out laughing). Except for the 54 years, I was thinking the same thing. I never get a simple "yes" or "no" answer from my wife to a yes-no question.

VPNs spoof your location but don't block ads; ad blockers are free. I signed up for Express VPN back in December to test it out. $100 a year isn't so bad and so far I like it. I use some heavy ad blocking plugins in my browser so I basically never see ads anyway, but I really like it when I go to sites and it says "Hello Boston, MA user!" (or singapore or south america, or wherever you want to be) when I'm actually in Idaho.
I thought I read there was a movement to ban VPNs which... imo, means if someone wants to stop it then it's probably a great tool to be using.
