"Get off my land" pumps shell in "Get off my soil"
Seems like the Judge belived the eye witness and not the telemetry of the drone. Makes since to me.
Judge dismisses charges for man who shot down drone
During Monday's hearing, Boggs testified that flight data showed the drone was flying higher than Meredith stated. But Judge Rebecca Ward says that since at least two witnesses could see the drone below the tree line, it was an invasion of privacy.
"He had a right to shoot at this drone, and I'm gonna dismiss this charge," said Ward.
Judge Ward dismissed both charges against Merideth including criminal mischief and wanton endangerment
I was taught to fire off a warning shot and take a bead if it comes back.

I have a question...he keeps stating "height above ground". Unless he has a radar altimeter on board (unlikely), how does one know how far above ground it is? The reference he is using is the ground where he took off. Once it goes away from the takeoff point, the height above ground could vary even if he is flying it at a constant altitude. Where I live there is a lot of relief, the difference in elevation from my house to the road (where other houses are) is about 75 feet.
Also, i heard on the news today that someone flew a drone into power lines near LA, and knocked out power to 700 homes.
My method....(cousin Bubba's)
And something else to be concerned with....

I would guess it depends on the sophistication of tools the operator has. I can tell you after the fact exactly the altitude above datum and AGL by processing the onboard GNSS/IMU data for every one of our aerial flights. If the operator was getting a real time data feed back (or was able to recover the onboard data after the crash) and this data is actually being recorded, then yes that could be proved, In this case I doubt those tools were available, but they would be for anyone doing actual mapping with one.
I would assume also, at least for those with professional tools at hand, you could load a DTM and then use that for flight planning to fly a design AGL, I know those tools are available and used for our manned aerial aircraft mission planning. Usually we don't change altitude on a line, just fly an average, but the rough DTM's available for free keep your photo scale close to design over an entire project.

Weird or real or fake?
If we could just get one that shoot rebars/hubs/lathes/ and concrete monuments then we really wouldn't have to get out of the truck as long as we could get coordinates from the county gis out to the 10th decimal place.
It's Leonardo DaVinci's fault.

It's too inexpensive, too easy to operate, too much of a toy, and too useful to not use.
Its been going on for some time now - its human nature...
Wouldn't a paintball gun avoid some of the legalities associated with shooting a shotgun at the drone? Bet the operator wouldn't like his expensive camera getting all gunked up.
That's OK. Raytheon and the US Army are chasing a rogue aerostat through PA. it slipped its mooring in APG baltimore and is floating away. good luck shooting that down
In some communities, firing a paintball gun (or airsoft gun) is almost as bad as firing a regular gun.
I know that in some cities, if you shoot a paintball gun from your truck while driving, you can be charged with "discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle within city limits". And that's pretty bad. Not that I looked into the specifics of it at any time in the past.
I've done a bit of shooting over the years and I believe the land owner, he isn't going to shoot down a drone thats near 300 feet in the air. Its just not normally going to get hit with a shotgun pellets.
At 300ft the shot are not that effective.
I would think that hitting one of the rotors would probably cripple it.
