The FAA and other governing agencies should step forward and make public statements about the rulings that they consider relevant to drones flying about.
It is a given that they have been given the same rights as other aircraft and should operate within their flightplans and normal operating parameters.
Big fines and possible prison time for shooting at aircraft of any kind, however, it is very wrong for the neighbor to be buzzing around anyone's home and private sanctuary.

My fair warning is the no trespassing sign out front. As my neighbor now understands, if my garden hose can reach it you're too close.
It's just a matter of time before the peeping drone is operated by a government employee doing "compliance" checks.
It's too inexpensive, too easy to operate, too much of a toy, and too useful to not use.
Discharging a weapon, bird shot or otherwise, is generally discouraged in urban areas and is likely against the law. I know this because I caught a skunk in my live trap. I like the hose idea but that may also have a negative impact on your neighbors although I cannot imagine what that would be.
Someone smarter than I will develop a scrambling device that works in a very narrow area that intercepts the controlling signal to a drone rendering it jetsam.

I am all for respecting people's private space and believe that a man's castle should have a zone that is under his complete control and if they want to arm it with signal jammers that do not reach outside that zone, let them.
The part about all the scyfy movies that everybody cheered was when the hero destroy or disabled or blocked the evil alien's control signal and all their spaceships fell to the ground or exploded.
It would make my day if some snooper drone piloted by neighbor, feds, local over zealous law enforcement or the ex's private eye just fell out of the sky next to my patio and spot jumped on and tore into the invader like it was his new chew toy.
What can they do.......
The only other way would to be to create some side effect of a combination of other factors that was able to interfere with the signal the same way dead spots cause cell phones calls to be dropped. Those things are everywhere and nobody is doing anything about them because of who it is that is responsible.
Our utility companies has in place meters that send their readings to the office in many urban areas and the long term plan is for them to be at all households. That alone lets us know that we are not as in control of our own property as we thought........

A poster mentioned someone developing some technology that would disable communications and cause a drone to crash. Jamming the radio frequency that is responsible for navigating/operating the drone would have that affect.
Jammers can completely disable GPS signals, and it has been proven that is possible with off the shelf components and A LOT of knowledge to spoof the signal, so that when the operator hits the "home" button or the drone detects that it's battery is getting low, it would fly back to a false coordinate miles away. This is how one of the middle east countries supposedly captured one of the US spy drones intact.
Also the radio signal between the controller and the drone could be easily jammed if you knew the frequency, causing loss of control.
All of these situations would be increasingly dangerous to public safety due to interfering with civil infrastructure that may rely on those signals.
I was merely pointing out that there is already a market for these devices. Maybe not specific to drones, but the technology would still apply.
Hey guys, we have opportunity here. We could sell giant butterfly nets to capture the drones. We could sell traps - those cool nets that blast out of a container and have weights on them. What about spray paint guns to cover the camera? How about a big magnet on the end of a pole? Electromagnetic gun? Giant fans that cause a whirlwind? Or just hire a 'guard' - aka a big fat naked guy who would repulse any voyeur.

Where I'm from in Georgia one of the most celebrated days (following the opening day of college football) is the opening day of dove season. I don't believe the life expectancy of a drone would be very long if one flew over or around a field filled with hunters. It might be fun though (grin).

Can you use the dove recipes for drone?
Remove both breasts from the drone.
Wrap in bacon
Toss on grill
Baste with a combo of olive oil & orange juice
Eat on the tailgate of your truck accompanied by a cold beer
I read a comment on one of the news articles abot this that called it a "powered skeet".
