Not very often seen for sale. Drool....!
I wish someone would put up a scan of one of these. I don't so much want the actual book, but more the diagrams and illustrations. Can't wait to see how much it goes for.

That's pretty cool - thanks!

There is a complete facsimile copy of the 1855 Manual w/PLATS (and many others from 1815 up thru 1881) in:

If only the surveyor had written his name in the book that would be even more of a historical treasure. Imagine a deputy looking through that by candlelight in a tent out on the prairie when he was faced with an unusual circumstance and needed to consult the "Book".

This may be what you're looking for.
Use the Tools Icon if it appears to download PDF. If you get a set of letters to copy, copy them and the PDF will be downloaded.

In addition to the signature...the hand written notes in the margins make for some interesting reading. One of these days I plan on scanning the margin notes of my two Hodgmans

Downloaded perfect.
Thank you for that link. I am sure many surveyors will use it.
I have an 1855 Manual in pretty good shape with the plats. Would be happy to scan and send to anyone

It seems that the text is readily available from a number of sources. The plats are not, so that would be a wonderful addition. Please post a copy of those if it is not too much trouble.
BTW-the 1851 Oregon Manual makes reference to 2 plats. It seems, however, that either these plats never existed or else all copies have been lost. If you should come across a copy of the 1851 Oregon with plats you have yourself a real find.

That's about what I suspected it would go for.
I would have loved to get it, but don't have that kind of bread to throw around anymore.
Oh Well...I have "copies."

For that kind of money I'd sell mine. Maybe for even a little less.
Maybe I should sell mine too
