For those of you who have upgraded(?) from Windows 7 to Windows 10:?ÿ Have you had any problems?
Is it an upgrade or does it require a fresh install?
Any comments, good and bad, would be appreciated.
I went from W7 to W8 to W10 over a very short period of time.?ÿ My biggest issue is the time to do the update, especially the earlier ones.?ÿ I have not had a lot of problems running programs.
The upgrade process is generally pretty painless.
But you can expect issues communicating with your data collectors.
And with getting some older software to work.
Expect also to have to shell out multiple $$$ for new licences and to 'upgrade' software.
There are also some Win10 default settings you will probably want to change.
There is a bit of a discussion here...

For the record, I loaded Land Desktop 3 (c.2003?) on my Windows 10 laptop this weekend with a minimum of effort. It runs fine.

And I thought that I was a bitter clinger, refusing to change with the times.
10 is the best windows. I'm running old programs without any issues. I have LDD circ 2002 installed and it's working well.?ÿ
I'm trying?ÿ to reload LDD on my new Windows 10, but it wants an authenication code that you have to get from AutoCad. AutoCad doesn't support LDD anymore so they don't know what you're talking about.
How did you get past that?
I have a guy, he figures it all out. But, I did this early on in Win 10.?ÿ
a couple months ago I did a fresh W10 install and was blocked by Acad from reinstalling my LDD. I complained to the original re-seller. It took a bit to convince them that if they ever wanted another nickle from me that I needed Them to Fix It. In the end I permitted remote access and it now works.
Mine runs well in Win10, but I do know we solved that at the time.
It must have been 4 maybe 5 years ago when we switched over.
I'd imagine much has changed since then.?ÿ
Each year I'm forking over lots of cash to Autocad, it's one thing I will be glad to be done with.?ÿ
?ÿ
I read that a lot of people have had problem with upgrading a Win7 computer to Win10, so I did a clean install at home. No problems with that approach. I love how fast it boots up.
I'm a firm believer in doing a fresh reinstall at least every couple of years.
As for LDD, until a year or two ago I kept a copy of LDD 2009 loaded on my machine along with the current C3D.?ÿ It works fine with on exception, the license would randomly stop working & I would have to call AutoDesk and get it re-validated.?ÿ AutoDesk never gave me any troubles doing it, but then I do have a current subscription.
C3d 2020 at work. Once in a long while I have a little something something to do at home, for that I have this old copy of LDT3.
You see a lot of people working with LDT2004. That is because that was the last version that you tee'd up with registration, CD key, and Auth codes that were printed on the box. Beginning with 2005, you needed to be hooked up to the internet and linked into Autodesk to get rolling.
I asked. He said you have to be the original owner of the software and have the original numbers, license and such from the box to make it work. Otherwise you are out of luck. We save everything so it worked for us.?ÿ
The only way I could get LDD 2006 to run on 7 or 10 was by using ??Longbow? software to update the install file.
Going from 7 to 10 may cause driver issues. Make sure to back up all your drivers first. ?????ÿ
I'm the original owner, I have the disc and the registration information, is the serial number, and cd key are printed on the jewel case. There is however is no authenication code. You have to call AutoCad for it, which I did. They verified that I was the registered owner, but didn't know anything about an authenication code and could not help me further because AutoCAD no longer supports LDD. I still have a working LDD on my old computer. Is there a way to find an authenication code on it?
I haven??t had many major W10 issues but one small one that was aggravating. I have an old HP 500 designjet plotter that I kept running at home. Not the best rig out there, but it was cheap and handy to have when I needed it.?ÿ
One of the mandatory W10 updates rendered it unusable. I had a local computer wizard check it out and he couldn??t find a way around it. Windows basically ignores any communication with that plotter.?ÿ
The only thing that made it work again was to reload an older version of W10. But, the computer wizard warned that it may happen again when Windows decides to force another update.?ÿ
Thanks for the post! I have a Designer 500 that I use regularly. I plot to it using a Windows 7 and old Windows XP computers. Im in the process of upgrading the Windows 7 computer to Windows 10. I guess I better keep that old computer on Windows XP is I want to keep using the Designer 500 Plotter.
