  • Hello mappers out there using Smartworx, I recently started using the smartcodes point blocks on a CS15 data collector. I'm using the stringing numbers to achieve linework.?ÿ If I'm in a line and start a 3pt curve there are no issues but when I want to start two 3 pt curves it won't draw in the second one correctly. Also looking for the best way to close a line( to close a square) or ways to join to a point number. Thanks?ÿ

On the 3 pt curve you take the 3rd shot, then you have to start another 3 pt curve and take the same shot as the 3rd shot to begin the new arc. I use the Begin area function to close squares.

in my experience if you start a spline and then shoot it intelligently, it'll string compound and reverse curves together correctly without any additional coding or prompting required.?ÿ but you do have to be pretty diligent about your shot selection.?ÿ like anything else, it's a skill that can be developed.

I didn't even know that Smartworx had office software.?ÿ I use Carlson Survey in the office, and that's how I collect/draw figures with multiple, compound, reverse curves.?ÿ If you do it right, then the end of one curve can also be used as the beginning of the next.?ÿ Start with PC, and end with PT, and everything in between will be one continuous curving polyline.

JPH, I'm used to using Carlson in the field. I've now been switched to Smartworx so trying to learn how to accomplish the same results. I should have added to my original post, if I'm running 3 lines down a road shooting them as cross sections and when I get to the PC I'd like to shoot the PC's one after another.

It really all depends on what you're using in the office.?ÿ

If that hasn't changed, then you should be able to collect data using the same format and codes as before.?ÿ It all exports to a rw5, raw, or fbk

I'll post when and if I find an answer, so far options are: office can start the curves if book noting or they can guess due to lots of small tangents, in the map screen you can select the midpoint of the curve on the controller and tell it the midpoint of the arc, or you can just reopen the line by taking a shot and then running the curve on that same line marking the shots so you know where to take the rest of the arcs ƒ??‹?. The office hasn't complained as the format as that has been established and working by the company I started working with. thanks guys

Again, it depends which office software they're using.?ÿ If it's Carlson, you start lines and curves in the code description.?ÿ If it's C3D/LDD, you do it with a DC note (or using the same Carlson descriptions and exporting to a fbk in Export).?ÿ

So you shouldn't have to make notes for the office techs to see, you should be able to shoot it in the field so it works.
