The developers of the DTM software used widely here in South Africa sent out their newsletter, saying that they will no longer support the function to output kml files to Goggle earth as goggle has set an end date for GE API at December 12 2015
Here is the screen shot and the link to the story, which I read on several sites and even from goggle.
I cant make out if goggle earth is going to disappear for good or just the sites that links to browsers or embedded websites will no longer be supported.
Can any one shed a more informed opinion ?
The link to the story is here

I read lots comments from many users and my impression was that it was disappearing for good to be replaced by maps.
It would be a big loss not to be able create and use kml files , I hope I have got it wrong .
Not going to do it.....................
Can't help myself.....................
This is so hard..........................:-X
I would think that rather than get rid of it they would make it available for a fee. It wouldn't make sense to just cut it off completely.
If this is true, google (goggle) earth is ending, then where will I store all my job number locations, find my NGS benchmarks graphically, and plot my FEMA FIRMs for general viewing?
This is a perfect reason why I've been slowly removing myself from the Google ecosystem. They build something, you get used to it, have all your data in it, then they abandon it. This has happened to me a few times with Google products.

Sounds like it's just the Google Earth browser plug-in that is going away, which is not a big deal because Google Maps API V3 can take the place of the plug-in, in some cases I wonder if it isn't better even. No mention of the Google Earth desktop application, or plans for shelving it.

Sweet. I use the desktop version. Thank you!
Suppose Google did end access to Earth for free. How much would you be willing to pay? $500/yr? $100? Or would you go without?

Pretty much the opposite has happened. Google has released Google Earth Pro for free. It used to cost $400/year.

This is part of the phase-out...

I believe this could be the reason Google Earth could be ending.
