Anybody know what setting I need to change?

When moving things around with grips, they want to snap to random points around text or label entities. Even if I set my object snap to one thing, like endpoint, things are still drawn to the text or label entities. Trying to string these labels out around the island so they can be read, but if I am touching another one it will snap to who knows where.

When repositioning an object using the grips, it is a smart idea to turn your snaps off. The F3 button on your keyboard is a quick way to turn the snaps on/off. I hope this helps.

That works, but there should be a setting somewhere.:-@

The setting was just pointed out...what other setting do you need. Osnap on or Osnap off, those are the options.

If you are looking for a button onscreen. There is one on my C3D 2012 at the very bottom of the screen below the command line

You can also hold ctrl on the keyboard and right click on screen. It will bring up the osnap command and you can go to settings and turn it off there

Yes, Snap on/off is there, not what I am looking for though.

There should be some setting to make CAD not snap to things that are not turned on in the snap list. Whatever it is snapping to, is not a normal snap object.

If you are looking for osnap setting where you can pick which ones are on or off then go

or on command line type osnap and it will bring it up

sounds like you have snap to grid turned on.

The text has "nodes" just like points do. They appear to be random, but they're usually the corners of the arrows and text boxes. You should be able to turn this off, but keep the other snap identities available.

If this doesn't do the fix... I tried!

Grid is off.

I usually run with snap on and set with endpoint and node on, and everything else off. In this particular instance I am set with center on everything else off. With snap off, all is well except I have to manually access snaps to continue with a new label.

As I grip edit these labels, if my cursor is touching any label it will snap to one of the four corners of that label or back to the point of origin of that label. The one I am trying to place is dancing all over the screen because of this condition.

As I type this, I come to the conclusion that the labels have a variety of options in their style, including boxes around the text and who knows what else. I guess I am looking for an "ignore labels" setting.

even if the grid is off it will snap to it if the snap to grid is turned on. You can type OSNAP in the command line and it will bring up all the snap settings. Maybe you can find what you are looking for in there.

You must have some setting turned on that we're not aware of. I never use the out of the box labels like the one in your post....having said that I labeled 7 points using the same label style you are using. My osnap is OFF and when i move the labels around they don't snap into anything which is what should happen with osnap set to OFF.

True, same here. [sarcasm]But I want to play with my snap on.[/sarcasm] If you look under options, snap control, there is a setting where you can ignore hatch objects. I need one of those for label objects.

Vern's problem is that he has the center snap on and he can't tell where it is going. I noticed that the osnap will snap to a circle that is associated with a label when you hover near the label. It looks like your best bet Vern, is to have your left hand index finger close to the F3 key and toggle osnap on/off constantly. That is what I usually do when working with snaps.

"Osnap", or tentative is one function where MicroStation leaves AutoCAD suckin' stump water. If MS arrives at the wrong node, just keep clicking (as it picks each node in a given area) until the correct one is selected. EZ-PZ-Japa...oh, you understand. 😉

Try changing the "OSNAPNODELEGACY" to the opposite to what the setting is now (0 or 1). This cuts off the "nodes" associated to the M-Text.

ANSWER-C3D annoying snap setting?-ANSWER

OSNAPNODELEGACY Set it to 1.

This fixes it for the most part as it ignores the nodes in the labels, it still wants to grab the boxes but I can turn those off in the label style.
