Thanks, Lee! This is just the right kind of information for an old plane surveyor like me.

This is a very useful document especially to pass on to employees new to Grid to Ground. Any other similar documents or links welcome.

Is it not the reality though that many design teams are just not familiar with the concept and that if they are given a drawing in grid that they just design ground distance on top of it anyway without realising the potential error?

Those who have been on the prior forums will recognize the author Richard Sincovec as a poster. He solicited comments on that paper and used them in this revision. I think I heard of his passing a few years back.

I had looked for that pdf file a few months ago and was unable to find it. I have two people that desperately need to read it.

Thanks Lee for sharing it.

Sinc has indeed passed away. He was an early adopter of Civil 3D, and as such found himself needing significant support. Finding none... he self taught himself how to program the missing bits of the surveying tools needed in Civil 3D. He was patient with newbies and had the heart of an educator. He is still missed by the civil 3D surveying crowd.
