I went and dug out my old CD and managed to remove the password.
Since Dan says it's OK, I've attached the PDF here:

A red letter day. Halloween, 2019. I did pay for this back in the day and I've got the CD ....somewhere....
Thank you very much. I read about 60 pages last night. Can't wait to read the rest.
Thank you very much to those who asked permission and also pdfed the book. really interested read. Will add to my reading list.?ÿ
See above:
I just heard from Dan and this was his response:
"The book is not in print anymore.?ÿ I certainly have no issue with sharing, copying, whatever."
I get that way sometimes. Just give it all away. Good will, is worth more than money!
Nate
Would Dan be open to receiving a $5 bill in the mail? Lots of people will find this thread and many would be wiling to pay for an e-book which they receive from the thread.
Best regards, Eli
He didn't mention any such compensation and in fact gave permission as I reported below: "The book is not in print anymore. I certainly have no issue with sharing, copying, whatever."
I understand that Dan is allowing free sharing and copying. I enjoy and appreciate that. I was raising the concept that I (and others) might want to to make a voluntary contribution since we are receiving something of value that someone else worked hard to create.
In any case, I appreciate Dan's generosity.
I can't say that I know Dan, but we have met. I don't think $5 would impress Dan much. But a nice thank you note would probably be appreciated.
You (and anyone else that takes advantage of this generous contribution) can always DONATE HERE
After all; without this forum, the world wide web would be missing a great source of knowledge...
I don't have this particular book, but I do have one from 1980 co-authored by Ted Madson and Dan Beardslee entitled "Beyond The Traverse Point, A Practical Guide for Managing a Land Surveying/Engineering Business", which was one of a series of publications from the Land Surveying Seminar days. Whether any copies are still available or not is not known, but is an alternative that could be looked into. This is also a good book to add to your library.
Hi Shelby,
Would you be able to email a pdf of Dan's book?
Or, I could pay you for any printing and shipping costs to have you print one from your CD since it is ok with the author.
Thanks so much!
JAL
Sort through this thread further and find a posting by Gromaticus dated Oct.31/2019 at 11:56am (PDST). That posting has a link to download the book.
Happy reading!
Thanks Mark found the link!
BTW:
I just joined the forum yesterday. Do you know how long it takes before I can sent a private message?
I believe that you must have been a member for a few days and posted several times (5?) before you are allowed to do that. It's one of Wendell's ways of keeping spammers at bay.
