Mail service

That's a problem. But in USPS's defense I have previous experience with Canada Post, and USPS is a comparative model of efficiency.?ÿ ?ÿThe joke went that Canada Post's air mail planes were so amazing they could stay in the air for 2 weeks without refueling.

It seems that?ÿ a policy of following up mailed deliveries with a phone call is in order. It is very possible that your clients mail is being stolen.

In Juneau, we were certain that our carrier didn't understand the alphabet (or might have been as lazy as Newman) we were the middle unit of a triplex (unit B, obviously) from the street the units went A B C left to right (even reflected on the mailboxes) we would continually have packages on our porch for the other two, which we would make sure to get it to them.

You bring up a good point.?ÿ Maybe their neighbor is messing with their mail.?ÿ He was not happy with the results of my survey.?ÿ I happen to know that young fellow and also know his mother is Postmaster of a different city.?ÿ Surely he understands the penalties for messing with the USPS.?ÿ However, he would need to be home around the time of delivery so as to slip out and go through their mailbox before they had a chance to pick it up.?ÿ Day after day.

Lots of great mail carriers out there, few well managed offices.

When profit isnƒ??t necessary itƒ??s not always the most qualified that get promoted to management positions. Through taxation the government redistributes wealth to those who work and those who donƒ??t. ?ÿI donƒ??t work directly for government but I still get a little milk on my chin. ?ÿHard to escape it anymore because of its size and scope.

I've felt for a while that the USPS should be dissolved.?ÿ

It was necessary when it was implemented and needed the backing of the Federal gov't.?ÿ But now, it's just a hackerama, and unnecessary.?ÿ Private companies like UPS and FedEx can do the job of delivering packages and letters when absolutely necessary.?ÿ

I rarely get mail anyway, since all my bills are done online.?ÿ The only thing I really get is junk mail.

@jph bad idea, extremely bad idea. The PO has been deliberately undermined by the wealthy owners of this country.

why not just hand over everything to billionaires, they give us such great stuff except for Windows and Facebook and just about everything they touch. Amazon is even talking about bringing back the company town.

FedEx and UPS have been bad lately too.

I forgot to mention the unfriendly neighbor is also an attorney. (Signal the melodrama hissing and booing.)

As I hand-delivered the goods this morning (and got paid) I made a point to stop in at their post office for a chat about missing mail.?ÿ Unfortunately, the very friendly and nice young lady handling that small town?ÿ facility was substituting for the regular Postmaster who is out with Covid.?ÿ Good thing this was one the route to go to the courthouse I have been needing to visit.?ÿ That post office is located in the end of a large metal building owned by a heating and air contractor who occupies the remainder of the building.?ÿ All small town post offices in this area are in rented space with the exception of a few in towns with a population that once exceeded 10,000.

We regularly receive items in our mail box that are UPS shipments that have been dropped off at our local post office for final delivery.?ÿ Obviously UPS and USPS have some sort of agreement on doing this.

I have seen post office trucks delivering something in our neighborhood on Sundays. Definitely not running a route.

...the "last mile" is shunted off to the USPS, as it is heavily subsidized and also the most expensive...

What you are observing is Bezos or Walmart transferring tax money to their accounts.

Bezos is a possibility at our house.?ÿ Walmart is a flat out no way, no how.?ÿ Stopped doing business with them over 15 years ago.

You can skip using the post office if you don't like it and deliver your mail yourself.

I sure won't walk a letter to New York from California for 53 cents.

And if the USPO closes, neither will the private carriers.

The postal service pragmatically is a service provided by the government.

I used to think the USPS "lost" money.?ÿ Then I read up on it.

Basically the USPS is designed to lose money.?ÿ It is NOT, and never has been a for profit enterprise.?ÿ It is designed to cost money because it is an agency that provides a service to American citizens. It is a federal agency that operates on a budget.?ÿ A budget, I night add, that is subject to Congress's three card monty style of budget balancing.?ÿ The USPS can't even fix it's own rates and doesn't even get any of the revenues generated by the service it provides.

Lord help us when politicians approach operating a government like a business with profits in mind.?ÿ It never works.?ÿ Can you imagine what this world would be like if the IRS started wanting to turn a profit???!!
