At least he got to the heart of the matter very early. He doublechecked that he had, in fact, reached me. Then he said he was with (Some string of three letters) Inc. and he was searching for (Some other string of letters) Inc. who was in need of a land surveyor. Wanted to know if I was available to relocate to wherever the main office was located immediately. Did not take long for me to say "NO". He asked why I wasn't interested. Told him I had been running my own busines since 1987 and had no interest in taking directions from anyone else no matter the wage offered.

I suppose I could have toyed with him for a bit by saying, "Are they truly an equal opportunity employer?" Next would have been,"Do they provide facilities to aid the handicapped in all ways required?" Only then letting him know that I am a paraplegic who works from a hospital bed. 😀 😀 😀 There is much I can do, but, I'm certain that I am not the ideal applicant for what they really need.

Last year I got an unsolicited phone call from a real estate guy asking if I would be interested in selling my house. I said, "Sure, I'll sell it for $1,000,000." He replied, "Maybe give me a call back if you get serious." I said, "I'm totally serious. I would sell this house in a heartbeat for a million dollars." He hung up.

Several years ago we did a major renovation of our house. It was overdue. A couple of years passed before the Google street view updated to show the new situation. In the interim I was getting offers from real estate investors in the mail weekly. Once the street view got updated the letters dried up. If you don't know who the redneck in your neighborhood is, it is you.

I've noticed that the ads for surveyors, and any other positions in the "Engineering" category in Craigslist has slowed to a trickle. And I'm not getting so many emails from headhunters. Nevertheless, I'm not hearing of a lot of people at loose ends.

I have some property, worth an unknown amount since nothing has sold in the area for quite some time. I keep getting "offers". They just show up in the mail and are always about 1/5th the very low appraisal value shown on the GIS site. I suppose they flood vacant parcels with ridiculous numbers hoping to catch a desperate owner needing to sell.

I get those for my 160 acres in the panhandle of Oklahoma routinely. Absolutely ridiculously low offers.

I got a few calls awhile ago wanting to buy out 2nd lot. They ask what I want for it and I reply, you called me, make an offer. Then they hang up.
