I have been using a Trimble TDC600 data collector since June of 2020. Basically a ruggedized cell phone. Has a nice handstrap on the back. I don't usually do topo so I don't use a pole mount.

It is starting to go bad, out of production, no parts, etc.

So I purchased a TDC6. Smaller, lighter. It does not have a strap. There are two M2 screw holes on the back with circular indentations beside them, looks like made to attach a strap to the DC.

asked my dealer, they don't know of anything, googled it, only things that come back are the TDC600 handstrap. They do have a pole mount bracket but that is not what I am looking for

Anyone know of a third party item? I just want something I can attach a lanyard to and string around my neck.

Probably could be made with a 3d printer but I don't have that knowledge or capability

I might be able to come up with something on a 3D printer, printed with PETG filament (good for outdoor use). But I would need some very specific measurements to make it work, like the distance between screws, depth, screw size, and a general idea of the overall shape of the part you'd need. All measurements in metric (mm). 🙂  I assume it would be mostly a bracket that you'd load with a strap of some sort.

I have the screws. An M2 X 6 goes about 4 mm in and stops. I also have M2 X 8 and M2 X 10. Distance between the holes is 36 mm.

Now that I think about it I can probably just put the screws in, put a thin wire across the screws, and then attach the lanyard. But if you can make something without going to much trouble I would love to try it.

Hand-straps for the TDC6 do exist - I have one on mine.

I think they come in the box, as Trimble don't list them as an accessory.

As you guessed they attach at the top to a bar across those screwholes.

At the bottom it goes through a slot in the case (remove the bottom yellow bumper to see) .

You ought to be able to fix a lanyard there

Trimble seems to stop just short of the ergonomic niceties. Leica is good about such things. Granted, Leica is not shy about charging a king's ransom for them.

@jimcox It was not in the box, and my dealer denies any knowledge of such a part. Seems simple for them to include that.

It seems they assume everyone does topo and walks around with the DC on a pole.

@wendell No, that is the strap for the TDC600, which I have. It has an upper and a lower bracket screwed on that the strap loops through

@wendell No, that is the strap for the TDC600, which I have. It has an upper and a lower bracket screwed on that the strap loops through

Official parts listings confirm that the original TDC600 Hand Strap (Part Number: 118832) is the exact accessory explicitly designated to work with both the older legacy models and the newer Trimble TDC6 Data Collector.

While the newer, 5G-enabled Trimble TDC6 Handheld features a completely redesigned, smaller, and lighter form factor compared to the bulky TDC600, it does not come with a pre-installed strap out of the box. Instead, the back of the TDC6 unit features two standard M2 screw holes with circular indentations meant specifically for mounting this handstrap kit.

Where to Source the Strap

Because Trimble bundles this cross-compatible accessory under the initial legacy hardware naming convention, you can find and purchase it from authorized dealers by searching directly for the official SKU: Part Number / SKU: 118832 (or 576434 depending on the distributor's catalog system).

Availability: You can order this part kit directly through regional Trimble SITECH distribution networks, geospatial suppliers like the KOREC Group Accessories Store, or industrial mapping dealers like Cansel.

So it seems that you could use the same strap for the TDC6 as the TDC600?

Assuming they are both new, which one do you like better, the 600 or the 6?

No, the screw spacing is different.

actually, when I go to that part number, it doesn't look like the plastic part that screws in is included. So the strap would work if the TDC6 came with the plastic piece (or maybe metal, hard to tell)

Top one (TDC600) is 0.939", bottom (TDC6) is 1.454" (measured with micrometer caliper).

But that plastic thing shown for the TDC6 at the proper spacing would be all I need

As for which one I like, we have had a TDC6 for about a year (used by someone else here), so not totally unfamiliar. It will run the SX10 (over wifi), whereas the TDC600 will not (although newer versions of the TDC600 were able to run the SX10, IIRC). I was able to run a S6 from the TDC600 over an external radio (BT).

TDC6 is smaller, and for what I do (large area photo control/Lidar control) it is probably better, as it will fit in my vest pocket more easily. The TDC600 was LARGE
