I located a tree the other day. I thought it was a Catapla tree, but it does not look like the one in my Peterson's field guide.
It had broad leaves, similar to a catapla tree, but had long, snap bean looking "fruit", if you will. Any idea what type of tree this is? I did not have the camera with me at the time, or I would have taken a picture.
Not showing it on the survey is not a problem, but I would like to if I can find out the correct name.

Catalpa's in East Texas have that fruit this time of year. Were there very many leaves or did they look eaten? If so, it's a KATOBBY tree full o' worms that make great catfish bait. 🙂
Sounds like a Catalpa tree - are you sure it wasn't a trumpet creeper vine in a tree or maybe a PawPaw? I've never seen a PawPaw that had very long fruits, though. Also, Catalpa trees around here are often called Tobbywerm trees.
Thanks for the help guys. It is a catapla tree. My neighbor has one, but it does not have the fruit/seeds, and that threw me off. I just walked out and looked at it.

One good thing about a Catalpa, is nothing else looks like it.

when I was a kid, there were always giant old Catalpa tress around. We used to spend a lot of time climbing them or sitting under them, smoking the dried out "snap bean" looking fruit. Tasted like sh*t.
Probably better than smoking "drift wood" like we did?
