No thats definitely to a 87 ford probe!
My find from last week was this slippery customer.
The first day of spring is too early to be seeing one of these.
This one was only a small one (about a metre long or so long) and VERY sluggish which is how I managed to get a good photo of it.
Does not resemble our copperheads at all.
Well for today I was going to post a pic of our survey for today.
Busy setting out plane positions on Airbase strip for a airshow, but wanted to it at the end of the day, but got interrupted by Defence Intellgence for not having enough clearance.
Base is still running inside so will see how this plays out. What a time to be alive.
Obviously no photos for today

Ok so they actually let us back in with an escort. Here are some pics of the expo. Some USAF guys coming with a C17 and such but mostly Afrcan stuff
Enjoy

That big fellow has a point, but, if he'd put his hat back on no one would know it.
I could use about a thousand of these. We have been losing original monuments to overzealous dozer operators in areas of heavy petroleum production. I'm not sure who made this monument guard, but I'd like to see more of them.
Rock mound and iron pipe. Of course, we've also got shiny new coordinates on it, but better to preserve the original evidence.
OMG Andy, how do you set your tripod up over that? (satire)
Or use your compass and staff?
I bet the metal detector sings like a warbler that found a mate when you get near this.
Beer leg?
Back to work Dan.
The coordinates on the picture are for a corner about a mile away for some reason. This corner falls right next to a pipeline right-of-way and you can see the cage in the google aerial: @31.97103,-103.9927829,258m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d31.9710289!4d-103.9922357?hl=en"> https://www.google.com/maps/place/31%C2%B05 8'15.7%22N+103%C2%B059'32.0%22W/@31.97103,-103.9927829,258m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d31.9710289!4d-103.9922357?hl=en
I just watched this crew take a shot at the corner of a 12 story building in the middle of downtown Midland. Hmmmm.....

Years ago we were asked to submit a bid for a company that was building two Apt complexes. We did not get the bid however after the first building was layed out and really out of square, they fired the survey company that originally got the bid and hired us for both jobs. The first site had two tall buildings on two sides of the property and plenty of tall trees on the other property lines.
About a week before they replaced the first survey company, I was doing a job and a guy from another survey crew comes up to talk to me and say hey are you using GNSS if not you should you can use that to take shots under trees and next to buildings it's great and always fixed.
I waited to see what the name on his company, made a mental note, sure enough I found that same company name on a capped iron rod when we took the job over.
Maybe that company has a branch in Midland
I do not know what level of work they are doing or anything about their setup so I see no reason to reveal the name of the company, whose home offices are in Oklahoma. It's probably just a quick ALTA survey.

I guess it depends on what the scope of the survey is. It's possible with that R8 to get the shot within .. +/- 0.10' if you use the foundation line between the columns, and enough of them to provide a check on the foundation line. Building corners no.
Is that dude licking the window while that lady watches??
We didn't even get to wait for Kent to suggest it was probably an Oklahoma crew doing a quickie dickie ALTA.
The great thing about modern technology is that it ALWAYS gives you the right answer on the first try, under any conditions imaginable. Oops. Where's that sarcasm font thingy?????
Sorry Cow, I was anticipating the joke. But the company in question was OK based.

You don't have to tell us who it was. We all know it was Mick Power's bunch of pirates called "Red Plains".
Sorry Andy, I hope I didn't ruin your post. But I'm just not that polite when it comes to some things.

I love this place.

I have never heard of that person or organization and I would not post the name of the surveying company because I have no clue what they were doing, required level of detail or their methodology. Surveying downtown virtually under the corner of a tall building with GPS seems suspect to me, but could be a perfectly legitimate shot.
