Sorry Andy, I hope I didn't ruin your post. But I'm just not that polite when it comes to some things.
Mike Power and the Pirates of the Red Plains would be a great name for a band.
With this talk about monuments and caps, I thought I'd share this recent find.

i actually thought it was a piece of infrastructure or a parking bollard, but I looked up the number on the side and called RPLS 6349. He said it was indeed the replacement for a monument that was knocked out. The landowner wanted something substantial to go back in its place. This is a tricky area in the 16 mile reservation and I am pleased to recover this monument that was 0.25' from my calculated position. I don't have the budget to set these, but I wish those of us working in this area did.
Perhaps I should set a punchmark at my calculated corner. I'd probably still be on the pipe. 🙂

that is a beautiful monument...........
it would have been better if they had embedded those stones in concrete to circle around the bottom
One day it will probably stop an ATV or other offroad vehicle in its tracks, but I like it very much.
:clink:
did he get it in the oil fields? looks like a cut off P&A marker
I'm sure it's a piece of drill pipe. And yes, it's in the heart of the Delaware Basin shale play. Not sure what a P&A marker is.
Was wondering where the dimple was.;);)

They often mark a plugged and abandoned well with a pipe just like that (except taller), even the welded number looks the same.......so they get called a PA well or P&A

does anyone here know about HP48GX I have two that are acting up. about 15 years old. thought may be a batter issue but read that
the 512 card does not have a replaceable battery. calculator is in survey data collection mode, then goes to plain 48 screen when trying to open job, kcikds out of survey program.
was running real slow did diagnostics, etc...that helped but could this be the SurveyGX card going bad?
any suggestions? Really like this for data collecting have 3 can't afford anything else at this time

Andy,
I know exactly what building that is in downtown Midland. My first thought is "Your Kidding Me." My second thought is, "Why not just set up a Total Station?"
It's my office building. Again, I have no idea what level of work they were doing. It just struck me as odd. .There's been a lot more survey working being done here lately and I can only assume it relates to the upcoming rework of the Midland Center and the proposed redevelopment of the old courthouse site. Everything in sight has surveyor measles. Little dots of orange paint from the topo mapping.
